I'm from Canada and I'm willing to ship my shocks to US for a rebuild/revalve. I am wondering if I will have to pay duty on the value of the shocks. I am not selling anything, just shipping used shocks for rebuild. I know I will maybe have to pay taxes on the amount for the rebuild when shipping back and that's ok for me, but I would not like to have to pay taxes on the value of the shocks. Is someone ever had any experience with shipping part for repair across border?

Why not have them rebuilt here in Canada?

I would like to sent them to schmidt bros, because they are specialized in Yamaha, I think they can do the valving right the first time. It is a Phazer RTX, not sure if many place have great experience with them. Maybe I should try local shock builder, do you know a place with experience on the Phazers?

Dean @ Peak Velocity in Clairmont, ON or John @ Accelerated Technologies in Buckhorn, On
Dean was the go to guy for yamaha canada, snow trax, etc, he services race teams and is a machinist. John @ accelerated has a very strong reputation., these are the guys I know who are both good and local to me, there are good guys all over. As important as having the tools, skills, and model specific experience is having a shop you can work with because a good shock/suspension engineer will work with you to dial the shocks in for the way you ride. If you just want a rebuild, then any shock shop that services the brand you have can do that.

When you have them shipped back to Canada, insist they use USPS. Almost never any duties

Cannondale has done all my shocks for the last few years. I live in Canada but work in the US.

cannondale does all mine as well but i have complete spare sets for my main sleds so he has a year to do them minimum.
i have used shock tec here in ontario before with good results. has valve stack been adjusted in them before? the rtx/x in mi signature was done with just a service and they rode pretty harsh afterwards.

I don’t know if the valve stack has been adjusted before, I ´m the third owner and I bought it at the end of 2023 season . I did not ride it a lot because it lacked snow last year, but I can tell the rear shocks are harsh on small bumps and bottoms on not so big bumps. If Elka had shocks for the rear, I would have buy them already, I have a set on my quad and like them a lot. I could buy Elka shocks built for sc-5 skidoo, since they are the same length, but I ´m not sure the valving will be ok, the sc-5 may have different suspension geometry and could take many try before been dialed right. So I want the stock shocks to be revalve by someone who have experience with valving the Phazer, otherwise, I will try with Elka.

if it is riding stiff now, it does need to be adjusted. the other model fx phazer shocks are all interchangeable. i would suggest a set of coil overs for the front over the fox air shocks as they are easier to keep set right.
did see a pair of gytr fronts on ebay and a few mtx/base model hydraulic rear shocks just now when i looked.

I know hygear was doing some stuff with the phazer, back in the day they added a resi in the skid and dual rate springs on the front and the rear of my sled. You’d have to give Ross a call, I know he’s out of New York.
