It seems there was more steering damage to my Uncles sled than first met the eye and the tie rods won't allow for enough adjustment so I was wondering if we can adjust with the spindle. I would look on the sleds, but they are 3 hrs away. Thanks

Yes, the tie-rod arm is attached to the spindle on a spline. I had that happen to me a few years back, the spindle got twisted a little. I got it adjusted by using the special Yamaha tool for sentering the steering, then I adjusted the handlebars, and then I adjusted the ski alignment. I got it almost perfect, but it depends on the amount of twist in the spindle.

Did you bend an A-Arm? Sometimes that is hard to see. And, if they are bent (e.g.bent towards the back of the sled) it will be tough to get the adjustments to work.

Did you adjust the handle bar/main steering tie rod? If not, take the gas tank off and adjust that. You can get a ton of adjustment out of that.
My sled was "racked" a little bit and I had one tie rod all of the way in and the other all of the way out just to keep the skis straight. I got sick of looking at it and pulled the tank off and adjusted that tie rod. Now it is perfect.

stoutner - Mine was just the same, had to do what you did to get the tie rod ends even and skis aligned. I didn't like riding with one of the tie rod ends barely threaded in the the tie rod, scary having it come loose at speed.
