Hey Everybody looking for a little advice here. First I would just like to say I have been doing alot of research on this in my free time, so I have used the search function and looked over every thread I could about the ZX-2 and what I am looking to do. I have an 06 Apex RTX with the pioneer revalved monoshock in the rear and enjoy it alot. I have not really had any durabiltitly issues with the monshock in the 7000 miles I have driven it, other than blowing off idler wheels because I did not change them soon enough or the RA cable breaking 3 times, I have nothing else to complain about durabiltiy wise. Performance wise it obviously lacks a little in the big bumps and jumps and that is when I need to slow things down other wise I feel like I am putting to much stress on the suspension. Also over time I find myself enjoying more off trail riding more so than trail riding. Anyway these are my thoughts. I extend my apex to 144" 1.5"lug with the ZX2. I am hoping this lets me ride my sled as hard as I want over the bumps and jumps, as well as improving the off trail performance a bit, while still keeping some of its trail manners. The ZX2 is now 1500$ plus rail extensions and mounting kit. I figure after the suspension, track, tunnel extension, drivers etc.. I am looking at about 2500$ give or take a couple hundred. Also I most likely won't be doing anything until right after this upcoming winter because my sled is still under YES for the year, I just like planning ahead and researching so that I get the most for my money. So what do you guys think? Also I know the ZX2 is awesome in the big stuff, it is really stiff in the smaller stuff? Am I better off putting that money towards a new sled? Instead of investing in my sled. I am thinking that I am going to need to replace my track after this year anyway, so really I will be able to cover some needed maintence items as well as enhance the ride. Any advice is appreciated.

Sorry, just me, but I think that's nuts spending that kind of money on a suspension. The OEM's offer some very nice stuff - most of it available for less than half of what you're talking. Get an OEM mountain skid, or for some serious play in the bumps, a 121 and stretch it. Cat, Polaris and Doo all have some exellent choices. Start there and go with some high end custom shocks for the play you're talking about in the bumps - and still be WAY less than what you're thinking....
Myself, I try to justify with bucks spenst vs. bang received. I can't make that Zx play that well going that route.

I agree with both guys, I have had a edge that ahicks help me set up and I loved it rode much better then stock. I swapped to the ZX2 because they had the intro special of $900 and I jumped on it and sold the edge so it ended up being a modest upgrade fee. Honestly the edge is nothing compared to the ZX2, I cannot believe the difference and I'm fairly critical of mods and despise wasting money for something that is not needed or been over hyped. I held on to my edge in case I didn't want the ZX2 and it never happened I just love this skid. I'm amazed at how much confidence it instills in the rider. You feel like you can tackle any bump, drift, etc and it just soaks it up and makes you look like a super star.
That said I would have a hard time paying full price for it now. For what your talking about you'll be lucky to get it for $1500, IIRC the extensions were like $250. If you got the money its DEFINITLY worth it for a upgrade from the proaction, but your already coming from a mono so you have already enjoyed a smooth ride. You can find a polaris pro X suspension for fairly cheap and go with that for big bumps or maybe even a new nytro skid and still be money ahead.
Summary money no object ZX2 wont fail to impress its awesome, on a budget look at other brands and make it fit.

For my $.02, I have been very happy with the ZX-2. I stretched an 07 Apex RTX out to a 144" using the ZX-2. Search for my posts and you will see some of the issues I had and first impressions. Since I haven't been able to ride for about 8 mouths, nothing is really fresh in my mind, but I know I was very pleased at the end of the year last year.

Yea I read your stuff and it helped out alot. Throughout this year I am going to pay real close attention to what I don't like about my sled and where I normally ride my sled (%off trail vs. %on trail) so that I know what i want as well as what I need in terms of suspension, track length, and lug height.
If anybody has any other advice, keep it on coming.

The only other thing to consider is the ZX2 weighs 52 lbs which is very light for a durable skid, your mono...51 lbs. My edge was 65lbs and the proX are over that so that may help swing you in one direction or another. I mainly bit on the intro price and pulling off 15lbs. I will add my excell exhaust this year and pull another 15lbs off and be able to lift the rear end of my sled with one arm LOL
Other features not on oem skids but featured on ZX2:
8" rear idlers
No grease needed
no hyfax wear
4 wheels on rear axle
I picked up 10 mph on my sled from the year before but I did so many mods I can't honestly say it was all from the skid. I do know that it coasts much better and the engine braking has been reduced. Not sure if others noticed a difference or not.
