Is there any sense in turboing a first year RX-1M?

Frosty, just get a turbo and have fun with the rest of us. You will love it. We have figured out all the issues so you will be good to go. If I were you I would get a slightly used TApex and call it good. Or get a used Turbo for your awesome RX. Either way you will have an ear-to-ear grin.

i have an 04 which is not much different than your 03, and last season i put a Supercharger on it.

The power is ridiculous. I thought my sled was quick on hardpack until i supercharged it. I was even with my brothers sled (one in my sig) at about 30mph, then he punched it and i went about half throttle and left him as if he was sitting still.

I can go anywhere i ever feel like now, and not even use full throttle. The power is so much fun. To be able to go out with a big group, and having the sled that everyone looks at as the top contender is always a good feeling :)

Total cost was a little over 6k i believe, thats including labor.

Thanks, there's no doubt that a good running turbo or supercharger are about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on!

It's the dialing in time I'm not real excited about. It took me years to get mine dialed in but now it's finally there. Hum... maybe I'll miss all the tuning?

If someone knows of a smoking deal on a front mount turbo please let me know.

Thanks guys

Frosty

Turbo it for sure.I cant wait to get back on mine. Every time I get on a new 2 stroke I expect more power when you squeeze it ... almost makes me giggle out loud.

Trey (pwdrnut) From High Altitude Boost on this website had mine dialed in just right from the get-go. I had a pulley problem which lead to a bearing problem but after both parts were replaced, the sled is now turn-key. I'm not all that smart with sleds so i had to have a turn-key setup and this is certainly the right one.

Dude think of it this way

You owe it to your sled to put a trubo on it. I mean an an 03 NON turbo yamaha is like a 40 year old virgin. You got to do your part to help it out. ;)!

Thanks for the encouragement!

We'll see if I hear anything back from the email I sent to the guy with the turbo for sale.

Yamaha will probably be releasing the replacement for the Apex MTX at the end of this season. A new sled is on the horizon for me (when the right machine comes along) and I don't want to put too much into money into my 03 so I'll feel obligated to keep it for a few more years.

Maybe I should have bought a Nytro MTX at the end of last season when they were blowing them out for $6,700 but, then I saw everyone was replacing the track, rear skid, the front suspension, the footwells, the shocks, etc. This made me think that I'll just wait for Yamaha to fix this stuff and buy a 2010 model.

The list for my 03 this season is really pretty short (unless a turbo deal falls into my lap)

1. Nytro rear flap
2. The breathable side panels
2. Maybe some Gen III Simmon's skis (but with my wider Holtz front end I'm worried I won't be able to roll the sled over as easily in the powder).
4. ?????

I mainly need to be focused on the cheeser 97 700 Mountain Max I bought my son. I just bought a Bender can for it (are they supposed to rattle inside). I need some Yamaha Mountain skis for it (some 40th anniversary Nytro Mountain skis with the red handles would be perfect).
I need a primary clutch for it (the one on there now is heavily grooved)
I also need a 144" or 151" track

I have an 89 Ovation I bought for my daughter that I plan to long track and pipe for her. I also need skis for this sled.

I have to put a longer track on my wife's 99 Phazer 500 too. It has a 121" x 1 3/8" full block now (I'll use this on the Ovation once I change the drivers) but, I'd like to go to a 136 x 1 3/4" so I can use the stock drivers on the Phazer.

Sorry for the rambling but know that my focus is on the rest of the fleet and not on my RX-1 this season.

I have a set (actually 2 sets) of gen 1 simmons; a set fair shape ( rock damage ahead of carbides caused me to chave the plastic off) with yamaha mounts (RX-1) and a set with Polaris IQ good condition (typicalknicks from rocks) both are red/black marbled. I also have a brand new set of carbides for the simmons.

Also sitting in my garage is the 151" Camoplast stocker from the '03 RX-1 (great condition).

I have a -03 Rx1 Mtn and I have been thinking very much about turbo'ing it, but I do have some questions.

My Rx1 takes some oil, and from what I've read on this forum, it's pretty common that they do because of the piston rings?!

How stupied is it to turboing a Rx1 that takes some oil? Except the oil consumption, the sled runs very nice and the engine sounds fine.
Oil in the cumbustions makes it easier for the engine to start knocking, right?

Frosty: I've been asking myself that very same question. But you know, I love my sled, it still looks very good, its paid for, I've got all of the mods I want at this time, it runs as good as most fuel injected sleds, and gets about 15 MPG. But a supercharger is what I'm thinking of. I like my sled stock looking and sounding. I belive a supercharger would be just the ticket. If I'm still working next fall, I'm sure my sled will supercharged.

I too like the idea of a supercharger much better too. In fact, I had a gentleman hold one for me but, I got cold feet and bailed on the idea. I still may buy a used supercharger but, not right now.

Like your sled, mine looks and runs great. Why mess it up?

I just couldn't boost my sled right now, so I bought a new 2009 M8 instead to play with too.

I'll keep my RX-1 because I love the sled and for now I will mod the M8 because I wanted a lightweight "flickable" sled for boondocking.

I guess the new sled cost a lot more than boosting my RX-1 but, I'm really happy to have a new project sled too. I plan to get the M8 down to 425 lbs (pretty easy really) and up to roughly 180 hp naturally aspirated. Should be fun. ;)!
