Is trimming unused inner track nubs a good idea?

I was looking inside my track at my extroverts the other day and noticed that there is a row of track nubs inside of each extroverts that are not used for driving the track when only two drivers (extroverts) are used.

I thought about cutting them off with a razor knife to save a bit more rotatiing mass (above and beyond porting) from the track. I'm guessing it could save another 1 1/2 to 2 lbs. from my 162" Camo Extreme.

Has anyone else done this or can someone tell me why it wouldn't be a good idea?

I can't see this being worth all the work it would take. It could also weaken the track if the nubs are woven into the rest of the fiberglass in the track.

The ones in the very center? If so they help guide the wheels at the rear of the skid. Basically all the nubs are used on the wheels someoplace. My advice is don't do it.

Ditto, they act as GUIDES for your rear idlers, the 2 smaller inners and the larger axle ones...specially if you have the 4th wheel installed on axle...

Thanks guys, yes the two rows closest to the middle of the track. How about every other one if indeed they aren't woven into the track structure?

It might be hard to sell that track after doing this when a bigger and better one comes out that you just gotta have.

Another good idea!

But since my track is already fubar from the rail tip going through the track window (and it's now gone) this might be a great track to experiment the idea with?

I don't see a problem with it if you run 4 wheels --- for sure wouldn't do it on a 2 wheel conversion.

Someone has to try it out ---- you could be our test Pilot----If it works out well I will do it too--Have 4 wheels on the back anyway so the ones next to the windows will guide them.

It won't hurt a thing to get rid of them. In fact, I run a track without them on the trail. No reason to have them if you don't drive on them. Take a look here, you'll see the new Iceripper XT track doesn't even come with them!
