ok so ive been looking at winches. if you have been reading my other post's ive had a gorilla axle break and on that same day i had my ramsey winch give way. its locked up!. so im looking at winches and gorilla is allover for the "brute" after martket so i am thinking of getting a gorilla winch. is anyone ran em or heard of em? im in dyer need of some input because my grizz is fallin apart

i am still running my warn. ramsey is the other popular one around here so i have no experiance with them. btt for you and hope some one else chimes in.

running 27" with 2" spacers is hard on axles and bearings. I've seen gorilla axles snap with similar mod's. I'd get rid of the big tires unless all you do is run in the deep stuff. I've been running the stock wheels with ITP mud lites on my 02 grizz and have never broke an axle. I've replaced wheel bearings and front brake pads several times over the years which is normal for theses bikes. The front brakes just don't last, I'm lucky if I get a year out of them.

I'm not a big fan of warn winches. I've been using a $150 superwinch for several years now with no problems.

thanks for the input guys.. but all i do is ride in the rivers around here. so i need the extra bite.. but im thinking that the bearings need to be changed each year. where is the cheapest place to get some bearings

I check my bearings when greasing the hub/arm bushings. I always jack up the wheel so I can check for any play before greasing the bushing. running in water tends to eat up wheel bearings. I buy Moose replacement kits for around $20-25 a side. My local dealer carries Moose parts and he normally will price match. I've also have bought from ebay and Dennis kirk.

you can also get just the bearings at your local bearing supply store with a sample. seals are cheap compwhen you do it this way.

getting them out and back in??? whats the best way.. i had to change some in my old 98 600 i had to endup knocking the inner race and balls out and then taking my mig welder and stitch welding the inside of the outter race and then knock it out but it was all rusted in there...

each bearing has to be knocked out from the back side. I set the hub on a block of wood on the floor and use an old screw driver or long punch to reach past the first bearing. Keep rotating around the bearing so it stays square with the housing when driving on it. If you have a torch you can cut the inner race off one of the bearings but be careful not to cut the bearing spacer ($5 part). Once the first bearing is out the second one is much easier.

Clean the hub and spacer then use a driver or large socket to drive the new bearing (press if available). Don't drive on the inner race. Once the bearings are seated install the seals. Take your time with the seals. I use a little silicon sealant on the outer side and oil or lube on the inner lip. A worn or damaged seals is the biggest reason why the bearings fail so make sure you get them in right.

come to find out the 03 and up have 1 solid outer and a split inner.. there is a snapring on the front of the hub and i just took to to a machine shop and used his press... i guess the pre 03 grizz's have 2 bearings

You're right they changed the bearings in 03. I forgot.

Its always nice to have access to the proper tools for the job.

ok guys so i got a new axle end from gorilla , new bearings from armo tech, and found the ramsey winch was full of mud and rust ... one of the planettary (spelling???) gears was froze from the gunk so some brake clean and white gease freed it up and im back on the trail now .... wow what a prosses with everything going out at once.... :o|
