hey guys,
sorry if this is a stupid question, but i don't want to take any chance screwing up a brand new 10K sled. i will be shimming the skis this weekend on my 09 vector LTX GT. can i just take my car jack, put it under the front bumper and jack it up? of course i'll use a rag or something to keep the harsh metal jack to plastic bumper contact from causing scuffs or scratching.
also, an FYI regarding scott bergstrom. i ordered savers, triples points, and shims (last friday). i got them in 5 days! so, there was no 'slow' shipping for me! maybe i got lucky? anyway, he sent me an extra set of shims. 2 different thickness'. he said the standard shim everyones been using are the 1/4 in. the other he sent was 3/8. has anybody used these?
quite honestly, he talked so much, i can't remember what he said exactly about the 3/8 and his reasoning for sending them. anyone know?
thanks,
peter

I can't help with the shim question, and this may not be helpful on your sled....
I snapped the front bumper off of my RX by jacking it up using the bumper. Now I just lift the ski loop, using the ski as a lever, and use jack stands or a floor jack under the chassis.

I wrap my lifting sling around the spindle. Don't lift it by the front grab...

Do NOT jack or lift from the font bumper!!!!
I roll a floor jack under the belly and put a thin piece of wood between the jack and the bottom of the sled. I jack it up beneith the cross frame (runs between the ski spindles).

I never heard of this. I actually use an electric lift and tie around the front bumper to load into a pickup truck and have never had any problems. I never thought the bumper would snap...WOW

yep, you are lucky if you read my post on the bergstroms you woukd see how slkow he is. anyways, i jacket both my sleds up w/ a floor jacket under the engine compartment on the center of the bulk head wout any issues. you should have shims for the skis that go under thespindle to tilt the ski backwards a little and should have to sets up ski savers which go on between the ski and the carbides.

Use the shorter shims first...that should be plenty good enough to cure any darting along with the ski savers. Scott told me if the small shims didn't do the trick, go with the next size larger that were included with the skegs.

I use the same method as 06apexrtx. Always works for me. Makes removing ski's, changing the oil filter or any other work on the steering components a breeze.
Very good question tho. I snapped off the front bumper of an 04 indy way back when and have never used that method since.

also, 06apexrtx, i didn't overtighten and ruin my ski savers (thanks to your warning on the bergstrom thread) i think that was you??? anyway, got the sled jacked up properly.....ready to go!
