Hello, how do I check the driveshaft/jackshaft bearing? Do I take the secondary clutch off or what? Sorry for the question, but I need to know what I' am looking at and how to get to it. Thanks for any detailed info!

Right, you have to take the secondary off to get to the jack shaft bearing and you have to remove the plate covering the drive shaft bearing.
Pry off the bearing cover with a jewl/eye glass screw driver, just be carefull not to bend it. If there is no water you can just add more grease. If water you should clean out the bearing with carb cleaner then air dry it and add grease using a needle grease fitting.
The jack shaft bearing usually is good for the year, but the drive shaft bearing should be checked every 2000 miles as it will suck up some water.
I have been doing this for years and have never suffered a failure. Thats with putting on 8000to 10000 miles. Also have never suffered a chain case bearing failure, just change that lub at leasest every year.

So, the driveshaft bearing is in the chaincase then I take it? I understand there is an upper and lower chaincase bearing. Is the lower bearing the driveshaft bearing? Thanks alot for your info!

I was only talking about the drive shaft bearing on the clutch side.
I have never had to do anything to the chain case bearings other than changing the oil and tightening the slack bolt.

Ok, that is what I was getting at. The driveshaft and jackshaft bearing are the same thing, correct? I have been confused by this! That is why in my topic title I labeled it driveshaft/jackshaft bearing to see if that is the same thing or not. So is it? Thanks!

jackshaft transfers the power from the secondary clutch to the chaincase (upper bearings)
the driveshaft takes the power from the chaincase to the track (lower bearings)

CENA maybe this will help. The jackshaft is the shaft with the brake disk on it. The drive shaft is in the tunnel with the cogs that drive the track.
There are two "jackshaft" bearings and two "driveshaft" bearings.
There is a jackshaft and drive shaft bearing in the chaincase. These "chaincase" bearings are serviced with regular chaincase oil changes. Nothing to grease there.
The 2nd pair of bearings is on the clutch side that you access by removing the secondary clutch. (easy to do, one bolt no special tools). The upper (jack shaft) seal is easy to see after the clutch is off. the lower (drive shaft) bearing is behind a cover and the speedo pick up.
Carefully pry the seals off and clean and re grease. and you'll be good to go.
for me the hardest part of the job is getting the belt off. then I have a hard time seeing up close to pry the bearing seals off with a tiny screwdriver..

I think my jackshaft bearing went out last night. Bad grinding coming from around the secondary clutch area. Thought I blew a belt until I stopped and checked the belt. The belt is fine but the grinding and non meshing of gear sounds makes me think it's the jackshaft bearing. How hard of a repair is this???

same thing happened to me on my Nytro I heard the exact same noice, but the nut thats on the jackshaft, came loose causing my bearings to go, cost about 110$ the bearings are expensive.
cena i guess if you haven't delt with them much you can gett the wording messed up.as they described above the upper shaft is the jackshaft and the lower one is the drive axle not drive shaft some people call them that I know I do once in a while, lol
My drive axle bearing took a crap the fist year.

Thanks for the article! I was just quoted $600 on the low end to $1000 on the high end to have my local dealer perform this repair. Needless to say I'll probably end up doing it myself or bring it to another dealer that quoted me $250 for parts and labor.
