Ok, how do I first know the position where the new bearing goes on the shaft? So the secondary is lined up as before and the gears in the chaincase align properly.

2. Now how do I tighten collar? The help on here says to use secondary. I don't understand as the jackshaft seems to only spin inside this collar. How will it tighten up? #$%&*

I don't think I would do this again... :o|

when I did mine the chaincase was still in the sled didn't even have the cover off. what I did was I had someone hold the brake while you tighten the locking colar with a hammer and a punch. thats how I did mine hope it helps. :4STroke: :nos

I assume that you are putting in the '04 or later version. Then with the chaincase bearing installed, position the PTO SIDE Jackshaft Bearing on the jackshaft so that when the collar is tightened, there is no pressure placed on the Mag side bearing. Then, tighten the collar. Some folks have fabbed up a wrench. some use a hammer and punch. I recall one person used needdlenose vise grips. However you do it, you need to tighten the collar. If you still have the chaincase open, I would then loosen and recenter the Mag side bearing just to validate that I had the endplay set correctly. Kind of a double check.

Look in the technical articles section. There is an write up in it. It’s not a bad job but there are a few things that have to be done in a specific order.
