I HAVE A 03 RX-1, 3000 MILES WITH A RIPSAW TRACK. WAS RIDING IT TODAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS A LOUD CLANGING. AFTER QUICKLY LOOKING AT IT THERE LOOKS LIKE THERE IS A BAD BEARING ON THE DRIVE SHAFT AND IT IS LEAKING OIL. THE NOISE SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM THE CHAINCASE. ANY IDEAS? ANY PROBLEMS WITH BEARINGS AND CHAINCASES? THANKS GUYS.

sounds like the chain tensioner on the front of the chain case is loose.

I DID ADJUST THE TENSIONER A LITTLE BIT, BUT THAT WAS NOT IT. DEFINITELY SOMETHING WRONG IN THE CHAINCASE, IT SLIPS RIGHT AWAY.

Your going to have to pull it and see what is wrong. It is not hard, just put parts on the bench in the order you took them out. You can also print off the mauanl photo for the sled.

The most common problems are the jackshaft bearing on the clutch side, and the drive axel bearing behind the speedo gear.

THANKS GUYS, IT IS THE BEARING ON THE CHAINCASE SIDE. THE DEALER HERE SAID IT IS ONLY 1.5 HRS. I WILL PROBALLY JUST LET THEM DO IT FOR THAT. THANKS AGAIN.

I'm getting soem noise in mine..almost like a clunk at very low speeds...but all my bearings were new like 800 miles ago..and I couldn't see anything wrong except my rev. gear is stripped off. The inside and top gear looked good.
I loosened the track right off to check the jack shaft, and the drive seems ok too....I'm thinking whole new gear set?

Yes, just let your dealer do the work.BOWJIVE said:THANKS GUYS, IT IS THE BEARING ON THE CHAINCASE SIDE. THE DEALER HERE SAID IT IS ONLY 1.5 HRS. I WILL PROBALLY JUST LET THEM DO IT FOR THAT. THANKS AGAIN.
You should also use mix case characters in your posts rather than all capital letters. When someone uses all capital letters, it is like they are SHOUTING at you.

Bearings
Just had to replace mine as well.
Had the dealer do 4 bearings, top & bottom and two on either side.
Only two were gone but might as well do everything while it's apart.
I had the same symptoms/noise - clunk at low idle, which eventually turned into a bang and started to slip. I'll know what that noise is next time! Got her back home without wearing anything out or wrecking something more expensive. Also, had a hard time getting into reverse to load up so that was a telltale sign.
Mine just turned 12,000 kms.
