jumpstart starter motor?

Have my apex Engine outside the sled and was wondering about how to jump start the starter motor för need to check compression.

My starter locked itself after i made the test with + and - directly to the starter, do i need to use the relay so it kicks back or what, if so wich wires.

No, there is no Bendix drive to kick out. It uses an overrunning sprag clutch to turn the engine. - to the engine block + to the starter wire. If the engine is stuck can you turn it with the starter removed?
Can you turn just the starter by hand?
