Ok I have been renting phazers for years and just bought a used 07 last night. After running it to put it in my garage I noticed everything smelled like a two stroke sled had been running? Now I suppose the last owner could have had some mixed gas in there but there should be no distinct smell to these machines correct?
Also being an 07 I am planning on addressing these issues asap.
-new starter
-colling fan
-front bushings
-tunnel cover(front & back)
Anything else I should be concerned about for reliability?
I am planning on getting an excell exhaust and ulmer clutch kit asap. I cant decide what efi tuner is worth getting? Any ideas?

Is there a good possibility that he put Oil, Stabil, or Seafoam in the gas that you may be smelling?
I seafoam mine every spring and it has a bit extra smoke for me in the fall. Run a fresh tank of fuel through it and see if it clears up.
There is no comparison between my phazer and SRX for smell and smoke.
Good luck!

Inspect the rear suspension to see if the arm used to mount the shocks is cracking/damaged.
Take it in to see there is any outstanding recalls such as the
Cold Start issue, and a few others. Might have difficulty getting the service done for free at this point... somewhat dealer dependent.
The yamaha rear tunnel close off kit has some stuff to insulate the gas tank and the seat from the additional heat due to not getting the muffler cooled from track spray. See Port Yamaha, fairly reasonable prices on most of these parts which is where I bought the fan kit and the tunnel close off kit from.
While you have the seat and gas tank off to do the tunnel close off... Swap out the spark plugs. Reminder: After starting always let the sled warm up to the point where the RPM's drop before turning off the sled otherwise risk fouling the plugs (and removing seat and gas tank to replace).
Many people replace the Ski's as well to improve tracking and handling. Stock ski's are poorly regarded.
Be prepared to have put a good number of miles on it before you are comfortable with turning it quickly at speed. It is a fairly nimble sled, but it requires that you drive it rather than just ride it. With the rider being located so high the riders position is going to have alot to do with the position of the center of gravity. Not everybody requires this amount of time to get used to riding it and the feedback the sled provides, but many of us did require some time before having confidence that we were not going to tip the sled over in hard fast turns.
Enjoy your sled.

So the more I look into my new phazer im pissed I bought it. It looks like it has had a small front end collision. The track is absolutely shot. And I came to find out the guy I bought it from had is 14 year old sons riding it. When I was 14 I rode my dad sleds like they were stolen. So next week I am pretty much going to tear this thing apart and start replacing parts.
Also, I'm new to Minneapolis and am looking for people to ride with. thanks for all the help.

Good excuse to buy a freeride or cut down a better track.Look at it this way:A 14 year old kid will definitly find any weak points so if you look it over and fix anything broke you should be good to go.I bet it wont be that bad just resist urge to buy all NewOEM parts.Upgrade if at all possible and for rest buy used.
