Hi guys!

On Tuesday I sold my 136" 2" SRX 700 it had bar riser & hooks & straps so it was easy to controle , yesterday I bought a 2004 RX - Warrior.

When we came home I was happy as few. I took it for a spin down the driveway and the awesome power made me smile like never before.

Later we went riding, went up to the mountains were we use to ride.

That night I had the most scary sled-incident I`ve ever had.

We were side hilling and I wasn`t able to make it steer in the direction I wanted. The snow was hard and I was going slowly. The sensitive throttle made it difficult for me to keep the control. A touch of the gas will send the sled forward really quickly.

Anyway, I turn around and make another attemt. Had to ride down a VERY steep hill, since the snow was very hard, it was hard to brake.
The sled was idling and suddenly for some reason it stopped.
I was sliding down a steep hill in total darkness, I didn`t see anything, nor did I know what was ahead. I turned the key but it didn`t start. I tried to pull the emergency stop button up, just incase I had pushed down by an accident (which made the sled stop).
Slowly the speed got slower and the sled stopped. I turned the key and she fired right up.
I probably hit the emergency stop button and I due to the panic I wasn`t able to take care of everything, steering, braking, looking, starting, pulling stop button up.

Anyway it was real scary and I got scared.
I`ve been into quite a few wierd situations but this one really scared me.

Back to the handling issues.

The sled is so tippy that I become a wuss when I ride. Where I normally would play around with my SRX, I sat on my sled looking at my friend with the Vector MTN playing around.

Am I wuss or ?.

This morning I fit some wide ski`s (ski-plastic). I also noticed that the front suspenion was set pretty stiff, from the start of the threads down to the nut it was around 44mm.

I loosened them and adjusted both sides to 21mm.

I also adjusted the rear suspension (the one in the rear) to the most loose position. Tried to adjust the front-rear suspension but I couldn`t find a suitable tool.

I then took it for a little ride and I think it got better.
But it`s still really tippy when side hilling.

On level ground it takes alot of efort to lift the skis from the ground.
On my brother in law`s MM700 it`s easy to wobble the skis up & down from side to side. (without going forward, both cases).

Gees to tell you the truth I`m kind of depressed.
I didn`t have as much fun yesterday as I would have had on my SRX.
But, the conditions yesterday was rare. Hard snow EVERYWHERE.

The sled looks freakin awesome, sounds freakin awesome but for mountain riding the handling sucks.

What should I do?.

Will it cost a fortune to get the ski stance more narrow?.
I guess this will make it more tippy, but better in loose snow?.

Fit a giant riser and hooks & strap?.

I can`t get it.. I`m a 100% Yamaha guy and normally I would manage to convince myself I was wrong (if something where wrong with the sled, just cause I didn`t want to talk about about the brand), but I really feel that I don`t have control over the sled.

On the other hand, the engine and gas consumption is awesome.

Gees I`m clueless..

:(

You have to get some rx mountain carb bowls that the problem when going down steep grades or up.They had a recall on the mtn sleds and they changed them over but not the flast land sleds.I'm not shure if you can get them.Put a mtn strap on a nd a left handed throttle it will make it easier trying to pull all the extra weight og the 4stroke when side hilling.Try on hooking one side of the sway bar and and see how you like it the sled will roll over a lot easier when side hilling or playing in the powder..You only have to take one boldt out to un hook the sway bar ling.If you don't like it just put the boldt back in.You will lean alot of info if you go back on some old post also check out the rx/rs mtn section you will leran alot there from some of the older post.

I felt the same way coming from my viper to the RX1 while navigating big dirfits and inclines and declines, I sat back while other played and I would have normally not thought about taking those drifts but on the rx I was too much of a wuss, the sled makes me think it will roll right over or wont do it at all.

I have made some changes and will be making more this summer but I found I just need to get more familiar with the sled I remember I was cautious my first of the viper as well but as you work on them and adjust them your confidence will grow!

One thing I have found coming from 3 different brands of sleds is that with a yamaha you can't just hop on and ride, it takes a LOT of fiddling (that or I am picky) to get it set up to what YOU like and get confident in it. Other brands of sled I adjusted the rear soft to hard and never touched another thing! Yamahas your messing with preload, control rods, shock valving, etc. I just like how well they run once set up that I will invest the time to get it the way I want. You do the same and you'll be happy! get that float bowl update!!

Thanks alot for the nice information!.
I will try to disconnect the sway bar. Are there many guys that rides without them?.

Is their job to push one ski down if the other on goes up?. Or?.
Will the sled be easier to side hill?.

When it comes to the carbs bowls I don`t consider that as a real problem, but now I atleast (maybe) know why it stopped. Can it be hard to start the sled if its placed in a steep angle?. Downwards?.

Right now I`m actually thinking of how a MM700 maybe would suit me better, but it doesn`t have the gas milage, sound & looks as the Warrior. But it sure is easier to handle.

I`m really in doubt what to do. I may be overdoing everything since I kind of got a bad start with the Warrior.

Two years ago when I had an RX-1 ER (came from a V-Max 600 that time), I felt that the RX-1 was much better to ride then the V-Max.
V-Max was much better at side hilling tho.

But when I go from the Mountain SRX it felt the opposite.

Gees I don`t know what`s wrong with me, I have a warrior parked outside my house but I`m ain`t happy. Help me get the smile back.

:)

I know you ride alot mtns and hill climibing because of your pics oth the other side. Most rx1 mtn owner took there sway bar right off. They suck without them for trail riding but you don't have trails over there any way,lol
For your kind of riding mtn, meadows and powder riding.Yoour going to have to put alot of mods on the warrior or get something else if you want it to be similar to your old sled.

Maxdlx: Thanks for the reply.
Wount a 5" riser be too much?.
Will a cheap-type of riser do the job?.
Guess I will have to get a longer throttle cable and a brake hos ?.

Kinger: Thanks for the reply, seems like you felt just the way I felt.

Normally I`m the guy that goes back and forth, up that hill and the other hill, messing around, having fun.

I just hope that I will be able to have as much fun on the Warrior as I did on the SRX.

I guess the value of the sled affect my riding also. They are expensive.

What kind of mods have you done ?.

Do any of you guys have problems with the sensitive throttle ?.

You would have to put longer cables on and hoses.
I would go with a pivot riser that way you can atually move the bars ahead while raising them.A standard block riser actually brings the bars back farther because the steering post is on an angle towards you then it forces you to sit back farther or stand back farther which causes poor handling.

pro116: Thanks again for replying! :)

So I should disconnect the swaybar and I will.
I was thinking of what you wrote regarding the riser and I was right. (I figured they would come farther back).

One thing I wonder is why the RX-1 feels so tippe?.
If I sidehill and stopp, then go off the sled, I can tip it over by just touching the handlebar, or atleast it feels like it. That might have something to do with the swaybar?.

Will make a price estimate on how much I will have to spend to get this sled better for MTN riding.
If I think it`s to expensive then I don`t know what to do.

I emptied my pockets to afford it and now I have to spend more cash. Although I knew I was going to need a riser and hooks.. . But the pivoting riser is much more expensive I guess.

Are there any rules for adjusting the front suspension?.

The nuts above the spring measures 21mm from the first thread, (when the locking nut is seated against the spring nut).

Hmm I hope my relationship with this sled will get better because the sled is so cool.. .

But then again, no point in having a nice sled if you don`t have fun while riding it.

No sled is perfect. We all have spent some serious dough on these machines only to spend a little more to make them the way we like them. A pivot adapter and a pivot style block (2" for a total of 3.5"without changing any cables) will only set you back around $80 so its not to bad of a mod as far as price goes. Get rid of the stock skis if you still have them. They are a big factor in why that sled is soooo tippy. These may help you out...

And remeber :4STroke:

You'll probably want a set of stiffer front springs, something in the 140 range. Also try some 6" or even 8" carbides. A couple of relatively inexpensive upgrades that should get you in the right direction.

I owned two rx-warriors... I know what your feeling.. I rolled both of my sleds twice..

First you need a 13mm swaybar... Ya, i know this is completely opposite of those other guys telling you to remove it completely.. Also get some Mountain apex skis!

To be honest.. This is the worst sled you could have boughton for off trailling.. It is very heavy and just doest perform in the deap! (expecially in stock form)

IMO.. the warrior was a great sit down wide and fast trail cruizer...

When my buddies when off trailling i waited for them to get back.. because i was terrified of getting that thing stuck

Hi guys!

Thanks for all the replies!!.

I put 150 kilometers on the Warrior this weekend.
Last night I wasn`t eagering to go riding.. .
Normally I`m the one who has the most fun in our little riding group, but these to days it`s been the opposite.

I removed the swaybar before we went riding last night. The sidehilling got better but it didn`t steer any better while sidehilling.

I`m sorry to say it and I feel like an idiot, but I`m having second thoughts about the Warrior.

Thing is, I bought a sled not suited for my type of riding. I feel like a dumbass not having realized it before I had it parked in my driveway.

I don`t feel that I have control when I ride. The sled is the boss and I just try to hang on.

I just put it out for sale. When I get it sold I will get a Mountain Max instead.

I hope all of you guys wount look upon me as a jerk for purchasing a sled and then sell it.. .
I don`t have anything against the fourstrokes, I love the gas milage and the sound and I freakin love the shape of the sled and everything.. but if I ain`t happy when I ride it then there`s no point in riding.

Here are a few pics from today.

Wellwell..

I don`t know what to say.

However, if I don`t get it sold then I will have to modifie it to make it fit my riding style.. .

We`ll see what happens.. .
