Dan you used 5.7 pilots or 6.9 pilots?machzed said:Pilots work well on the apexs...I think they would work well on any sled.....great design.
I had a mach early in 06,and loved the skis..hated the sled!..LOL....so when i sold it quickly to buy my rtx, first thing went on it was pilots...
we put em on buddys GT right off the bat too...so neither of us ever rode an apex with stock skis!..LOL

You have a bushing that runs the full width of the spindle that will make contact with the bushing inside the pilot ski. When you tighten the ski bolt you will have metal contact the entire width of your spindle and ski. There is no worry about any plastic being dug into.
If you turn the ski bushings around the bushing in the spindle meets the inside of the ski bushing, but the outside of the spindle makes contact with the plastic, take a look if you turned one bushing around. The Yamaha bushings were mounted form the inside out which would prevent the above scenario from happening.![]()
Ok I get what your saying.
I turned the other bushing around like you did and installed two large diameter bumper washers between the spindle and the ski's

Freak I don't see how they would. On ice the only carbide touching will be the one in the middle same as the stock ski's. Now the old precision ski's had two carbides touching all the time and the same goes for Doolies or duece bars.

standard width i use......and NO to answer the speed question.....there hasnt been one apex faster then mine so far near me....
the skis are basically no different then OLD STYLE single carbide skis, when on ice.....the OUTSIDE carbide is higher, and does NOT TOUCH ICE.
the outer cardbide comes into play when turning,as the ski camber or tilt makes the outer carbide touch on the inside turning ski,it helps grab in cornering on snow and hardpack trails.
also,it AIDS to reduce DARTING on trails, since both carbides are now into the snow.
but on ice, these are fast skis...nothing like precisions which had both carbides on outside and equal.

I put 6.9s right off the bat on my Attak and I love them.

What are the stupid push plastic things for mounting the loops, not shown in instructions.

Skidoo says they are for saving weight, pain in the a$$. Would have to drill them out to remove loops.
Plus need to put in vice to install.

I like these skis for my RX-1 mountain with a 162" track. Great trail performance if it's not rutted up and icy (in these conditions it's an interesting ride with 2" paddles :exc: ). And the powder performance is awesome
.
They are PPD skis (X-MT models). PPD is the company that makes the precision skis for BRP. The MT is the mountain designation. They also make a X-TR2. I'm assuming that would stand for "Trail" (version 2).
Here's some pictures of the X-MT models before installation and one with them installed after the sled was all washed, waxed and alluminum was polished.

How much do the pilots go for? How do they compare with Simmons and what would be a good carbide setup? I am going to pick up my 06 RTX tomorrow and need to swap the skis.............

I paid $380 cdn for mine, so you are looking at just under $300, way cheaper then simmons.
