Just picked up my CR10EK Plugs

Spark plug caps.

Back when I was racing (in the 70's) we had the same problem. Spark plug screw on caps loosing up. The way I solved the problem was to crimp the "top" of the cap. that way it starts on ok and then binds on the thread at the top. Just use a set of pliers to get it tight.

I've always used a little...very little amount of locktite and it works great..

is it hard to change these plugs??? Sorry this is my first 4 stroke.........actually I'm still trying to find the motor in this baby

Definitely not, per say, an easy swap, for me anyway. Definitely not something I would want to tackle trail-side. But then again, that is why I bought a 4-stroke, so I didn't have too many trail side repairs, such as changing plugs on the ol' 2-stroke.

Alot had to come off (hood, windscreen, headlight shroud, headlight, thin metal headlight bracket, panel w/ key switch, and coolant reservoir bottle unbolted and pushed aside just to get to the top of the engine . Then you have to take the plug "boots" off which are held in with 2 bolts (I forget the size..8 or 10mm, might even have been 4 or 5mm allen head) But with the right tools and the correct socket extensions it is much easier. It was about a 45 minute job my first time doing it, including disassembly, swapping the plugs, and reassembly, which I thought was pretty good. But I'm sure others can do it quicker though.

I'm sure if you do a search on the site you can find step by step directions or maybe another member will be nice enough to post them or a link to them. Good luck!

change plugs

Don't worry about trailside plug changing. It was reported on this site that it only takes 10 minutes. Or was it 5 minutes?

I rough up the threads a bit with screw driver (make some lines on them) then put them back on they never move and no chance of conductivity loss.

ok...someone explain to me...CAPS? Are you guys talking about the little caps that thread to the top of the spark plug itself? Does the stock plug not have that little cap and the boot "clicks" down onto the thread? I thought my RX was like that...
So your saying if I run 10's in the Apex I need to find a set of those "caps" somewhere because the Apex runs a different boot? Why cant the caps be used off the stock plugs? I'm confused...maybe a blond moment here...sorry...
Got this sled in the spring and put it away. Plan on tearing into it tomorrow for a few things. It's brand new so i am green to the Apex but wont be soon...

youre right one...need some caps for a proper connection..and yes you can use from any plug...used etc..we were just describing our methods for keeping the caps from vibrating loose..

You need the caps that thread onto the threaded post. The 10's don't come with them. The Apex stock plug has the cap, but it is not threaded, therefore you cannot remove it. In order to make the 10's work, you'll need to find some plugs that have a removable cap. Then use the cap you scavaged from a different set of plugs, thread them onto your 10's, and your good to go. Scratch up the threaded post just a bit so that the cap cannot easily come loose.

Hope that explaination makes sense.

Perfect Langow!

Thanks!!!

Bought mine from Ulmer and they had the caps installed just like MC said. Not a hard job to change them in a heated garage with the right tools.
