sheetwright said:While looking around for my fill in sled after my accident with the Nytro I opted for a 2012 brand new apex. Did this cause three out of the five dealers I called told me that this will be the last year for the Apex. I really thought next year would of been the phaser replacement and save the Apex for the anniversary special intro of the hyper sled, but things are pointing different. The viper just doesn't have enough balls for me, and to put turbo on something that may already be coming seemed like a waste. I know hard to believe I said that with my sleds lol. So for now I am going with the tried and true Apex. That is till they work the bugs out after the apex replacement coming. I really hope the replacement isn't a boosted nytro motor. I wouldn't mind seeing a sled with it, but the option of a N/A 170-180hp hyper sled would be the cats #*$&@. Especially if it even sounds close to the apex motor. Another year of waiting... Let's see what happens

Apex will be around for awhile yet. They have no replacement for it and no a turbo three hole is not a replacement! The Yamaha 4 stroke that started it all was a four hole and I believe that Yamaha will keep building a 4 hole. The get rid of it would piss a lot of Apex guys off and everywhere I ride Apexes far outnumber the rest.
Best sled on the snow! IMHO! You want to get me to buy another Yamaha it won't be a Catamaha (Viper way down on power) and it won't have less then 4 cylinders!

Try Waukon Powersports in Waukon, IA. They acually called me yesterday to try to get me into a new Apex. Hell, mine is only a year old '11 XTX (1 yr birthday is tomorrow) with 2400 miles on it. I got that for $9300 brand new. They still have one left over '11 several '12 and '13 available. I am not thier salesman and live 70 miles from them. It might be a bit of a drive but give them a call (563) 568-4025. They are ready to deal!

After this year I'm really surprised that anyone has sleds left. One little dealer on a Michigan trail has had an empty showroom all year.
Last week he finally had a few sleds in it, 2015 YahmaCats...

There is a leftover 2011 Apex in Albert Lea,MN under 10 grand.
A s/c Apex? I would rather see it in low boost. My buddy has a 240 HP Attak and while it's fun to ride on the lake I feel it has too much power in the trails. Yes that can happen. It feels like your being shot out of a canon. You have to be careful when you squeeze it in the trails....it will literally get away from you it hooks so hard.
I had this discussion just yesterday. Could Yamaha make the Apex 185 HP without boost in a sled? We know the bike version makes this kind of HP but they spin the R's much higher. Not sure if they can but knowing their success with engines my guess is YES.

love the apex , wouldn't ride anything else unless it has an apex motor , without a doubt the best motor on the snow

Hoping its true... Just heard the Apex replacement will NOT be a Cat. It will be a Japanese design replacement model. Which will be out next year. Glad I got such a deal on my apex. Gives me the option if this replacement is a huge game changer. Now the waiting and digging for info game begins.

So...how do you like your 128 Apex? Coming off a Nytro has to be a real learning curve, considering the Apex is a "sit-down" sled. Do you wish you woulda got another Nytro?sheetwright said:Hoping its true... Just heard the Apex replacement will NOT be a Cat. It will be a Japanese design replacement model. I love the sled, but in a few areas it lacks. First is mogul, and beat up trail conditions. Even using the taller seat, and 6"+3-1/2" pivot from lake effect it's still not good sitting or standing in the bad conditions. In the stutters it's ok. So I sent the shocks out to pioneer to have them change things up a bit. Power is different. Even changing my gear to a 40 tooth it still not as torquie as a a lower geared nytro. The mid range to top end, corner to corner, and sweeping turns this thing rocks. I've owned a a 2006 with a yamacharger, exhaust, pc3 etc on it, and this does feel lighter and more nimble. It will be a work in progress, but over all I like it. Now if I wanted the perfect sled for me it would be the nytro Xtx with a apex motor in it, but those are very pricey. Bad enough ulmer is already tempting me with the mcx290 kit setup. Lol! Just weird not having my boost also. Seems strange, but let's see hat yamaha gives me for the apex replacement before I boost again.

Flatter, smoother, and rails with less body movement. The body movement is different. It's #*$&@ to move the mass in the tighter, or real bumpy turns. With the nytro it's hang time all the time cause the centered weight over the column was never balanced correctly from yamaha. (I hear xtx models are a bit better) This is why guys like sleds like the viper now. It's not a ton lighter then a nytro, but it feels it caused it balanced over the body of the sled. Don't get me wrong there is one huge trade off. My nytro would eat bumps and bad trails for breakfast. The 1200 doos, apex, and vector models couldn't keep up in that area. The only sled better than the nytro there was a 800 etc xrs. Why is this a big deal to me? Well after a long day of riding you stop off for dinner. The body starts to tighten up a bit etc from sitting right after riding hard. Now you still have 50 miles over rough chop. On the nytro you just stand and ride. The heavy planted front with the good rear suspension was great for these conditions. The apex absorbs bumps and doesn't eat them....yet. All in all I'm happy with the power, 80% of the handling, and the motor sound is second to none

Why did you chose a shorty over the XTX? I sat on both and the XTX seems to have a higher seating position as well as a stiffer seat. Did you notice that also, or am I mistaken? Only shorty's are left over. XTX fits my plans better, considering the mods I want to perform. Did you try/ride both and chose the shorty for some reason?sheetwright said:Flatter, smoother, and rails with less body movement. The body movement is different. To be honest not sure on the height. I've owned a 136 in the past, my buddy owns an attack and both just seem to long and heavy to move quickly through the tight and Twisties. The longer sleds seem to excel in the U.P where the tuns are more of a sweeping style. I'm trying to setup a shorty to keep up with the two 1200 doo's, and the one 800 xrs in the twist and tuns of Minoqua, Baldwin, Boulder junction, Crivitz etc. each of those Doo's have shock work, and performance work done to them to also keep up to also. In the u.p. With the long roads and sweeps only the 800 etec keeps up with me. Those 1200's only can till 70mph with my setup. So there was a reason for this all in all.
