hey guys, up here playing with the sled and testing against my old mans powderlites sled. here is whats going on.

Sled runs great, Air fuels are around 12-13 crusing and were at 10-11 at idle. Then after riding about 40 miles the sled would not idle. Had to hold throttle at 1000 to 1500 just to keep it running and it sounded like it was loaded up bad. Drove it home and thought that I blew a vaccum line. Tore it apart and found no problem. So I leaned out the idle using the CO numbers and got the idle up to 13-13.5. Idles great now but seems like it missing Didn't get to pull plugs yet to see if one is bad or fauled. Plugs are stock and have about 1300 miles on them.

Am i going in the right direction with this?

over all though the sled seems to be very lazy in the lower RPM range compared to my dads powderlites set up once it is on boost it goes like hell, but the off boost performance is lacking

The details of the sled are:
2007 attak efi
running 12lbs boost now
Powderlites 2860 RS ported waste gate and coated.
Double down pipe with single pipe exhaust to hindle
cam timing is done per powderlites instruction video
3 stacked head gaskets
CPR intercooler
CPR header
vortec blowoff valve
Pure logic fuel controller
Running FJO guages and fell very confident with A/F ratio being right.(new sensor on unleaded fuel)

Thank you for any advice.

AJ, I'm hesitant to change settings after running very well. Your programmer settings should be very repeatable so something else changed, yes like a plug or something... Or fuel pressure, etc.
Last year the day of your shootout BigMooseTurbo had an issue with real rich idle / no idle and it was the IAC system on the fuel rail and not anything electrical like the programmer.

Morey, This has been going on since last year with My rich idle. always been rough. I am not changing the settings on my fuel box, just the CO I lowered to clean up the idle, should have done it last year. last year running to stage 1 turbo I had issues getting to the right A/F ratio. Now with the bigger turbo the A/F are perfect.

I also checked all the codes and none were on, or throwing any codes.

Also My TPS sensor is reading 12% off throttle and 95% at WOT. Could that be a sign of anything??

AJ, I was only commenting on your statement about not idling after riding 40 mi... Unburned fuel from a misfire will give you a rich reading on the 02.
I am gonna probably have to play with my CO settings as well.
What plugs are you running? Yeah, try replacing them and see how it runs after since your idle is leaner now.

Not sure about the TPS, I know GM's won't ever read 100% at WOT but the ECM ackowledges anything over 90 as such anyhow. Double check that your throttle cable is relaxed enough to allow full return.
Fortunately I haven't had any experience with the % readings yet but unfortunately I don't have access to my service manual since I am at my inlaws down in the tri-state area for the holidays. Oh joy, thankyou for the internet to keep my sanity! It kills me to be wasting time like this when I have a little over a month to the shootout. :o|
In anycase, 12% seems high as it's 1/8 throttle, does it need to be adjusted that much to get the correct air flow at idle? Maybe a sign of an IAC issue if so. Unless someone else can add that it's normal?

Kind of the same thing I was thinking Morey, I am home now, so the sled sits unfixed. I will replace the plugs when I get back up there and see what happens. If it cleans it up then good to go.

If it still rough and missing Maybe the sled just needs a beer then????

Anybody else have some insight or seen this problem before.

Thanks

aj

AJ I have battled with killing plugs over the years sounds like you have fouled one and under boost they will feel almost normal, you need to get to the reason why its so rich on the bottom. I suspect its the controller.I have a new Simons one here if you need one.

hope it isnt a burnt valve. I had very similiar issues, fouled plug, rough rough idle. I descided to take it for a road ride and it let loose, burnt valve broke off and made a mess. Hope it isnt what I just experienced.

AJ,

I had a rich idle condition also and played with the CO settings with only minor improvements. Is your IAC connected to the intercooler? I have a SC and this trick fixed my stalling problem totally. It would stall immediately after letting off from a blast on the boost. By the way, I use the CR9 iridium plugs. How is Art doing?

Just my 2 cents,
Ralph

Art is doing good, the old man just got his powderlites set up dialed in!!

Yes my iac is all hooked up. I am 99% sure its a fouled plug but it might be as simple as I only have 1 or 2 gallons of fuel left in the tank. I am going up next weekend to play with it again. I will fix it then for sure.

The CO settings made a big improvement!! only to still have a miss in the sound and a lazy reaction to throttle input. Once on boost though it went away.

I will change to better plugs for I am running stock plugs now.

I don't think its a burnt valve or any thing like that. For it came on out of the clear and got better once I leaned up the idle and cruise A/f ratio.
Thanks

Once I am over the 2500 rpm the A/F are perfect 12 -13 to 1 ratio to 11500. its only fat at Idle and engagement speed. I changed that in the CO setting and now have a 13 a/f ratio at Idle.

I will find out more next weekend when I pull the plugs!!!

I seem to have this same problem... i was out last night it was very warm -1*C much warmer than normal. at first the sled seemed to run good and idle perfect but after a few miles it would not idle and seemed to spudder at very slow speeds after you get on a pond where you could get into boost it ran perfect or seemed like it but if i let go of the trottle it would STOP. It was very rich i know that at low speeds and i could not see the af gauge at high speeds because it was wet snow/freezeing rain falling but it seemed good on boost. Could this be from a fouled plug? man i just replaced them, only about 50miles on my new plugs hope this is nothing serious maybe it was just where it was so warm and wet out... any ideas guys? Should i need to change my gems settings on a warm day compared to a cold it seemed to be fine last spring. Another thing i seen was when driving slow not on boost there is normally only one GREEN led on or maybe two last night i seen it turn yellow/orange or it seemed like it once or twice maybe my gems is not working right.

Just put in new plugs and no difference :o|
Anyone have any idea on what it could be? what i can look for? I'm not getting any codes but i have to hold the trottle for it to stay going and the green led that should stay green at idle and cruse is yellow/orange. Its not working at all as soon as you let off the trottle it stops.
