Hey guys,

Well at the end of last year I had my RB3 tuned again at a dealership well known for boosted Yamahas near Edmonton. This time I got 2 maps made, one for low elevation, and one for high elevations. I finally got the sled out for the first time since and I'm still not too impressed. This damn sled ran better with the junky GEMS. Driveability sucks and there's still dead spots. Anyways not the issue here. Runs like a raped ape WFO though.

My 02 sensor was screwed up while they were tuning my sled. My new sensor I installed wasn't calibrated and is all over the place now. So I'm not sure exactly what my 02 is doing.

Question 1) Can you properly tune your sled with the RB3 without knowing what your 02 is reading?

Question 2) At approximately what A/F # will you feel a rich or lean condition? I'm talking about a lean or rich pop or bogging or stalling etc?

Question 3) Will my new exhaust and snorkel affect my tune or will the RB3 compensate?

Thanks for listening...lol

new turbo system components, depending on variation can definately adjust state of tune.. if intake is out of the hood it definately needs more fuel to run with the cooler air, also, if your exhaust is more free flowing, same gig.

you will feel rich loss of power around 11:1 and down, and around 10:1 you start getting the awsome rich bogs.

lean poping, not super sure, but I think around 15:1+ when under load. the yamaha motors seem to cope very well with being lean, they just fade off and stop making power.

get your wideband dialed in, unless your really getting used to tuning by feel, good luck.

Why do you think the GEMS is junky? Its stupid simple and works great....but I digress

No you cannot tune a sled without a AFR unless your a gambling man

Mods will effect a static map of the RB3.

Good luck with it nothing worse then having to mess with them all the time vs riding.

TRUE only when it does not DETO... high enough octane fuel even leaner than lean will not produce power and will not deto either.

do the same with lesser octane, will deto and engine break

You're right. I shouldn't call it junky. It never gave me issues and always ran a lot better than this damn RB3. A lot of negative reviews on the GEMS on this site though.

Yes, I do need to get my A/F working again. Such a PITA considering I just installed the under tunnel exhaust and I already need to drill out my rivets to remove my 02 sensor. And it's a brand new sensor. I'm hoping I can maybe push some fresh air into the exhaust with a hair dryer or something and then do a free air calibration.

I'm hoping this is the year where I can get her dialed in. That was my original plan when I paid $1300 for an RB3 and brought it into a reputable dealer. Last year he guaranteed me the RB3 would work from low to high elevations. Turns out I started running so lean in the mountains I had to remove the RB3 and put my GEMS back on in the McBride parking lot.

Thanks, I'm definitely not comfortable tuning by feel. I do remember the old rich bogs on my TNytro though! Way too much fuel...

HAHA, I forgot about det, I guess when you running propane in a shimmed motor at 10# tuning, not a lot of worrying about that.. at ALL.

RB3 from high to low.. good luck. its great and has lots of options.. and lots of ways to freak out. I would suggest other venues of fueling, but Im all for stupid simple and effective.

I now have 2 maps installed on the RB3. One for high and one for low elevations. I'm just crossing my fingers the high elevation map is going to work this year. Hitting McBride up for 3 days starting December 15th.
