Can we use 80/100 Xenon bulbs in our sleds without it over taxing our charging system or overheating the lamp holders?? Lamp OEM has told me no it won't however they'll say anything to sell product!!

Some here are running them and I haven't heard of any issues. Get a quality built bulb like the sylvanias and you won't need the added wattage.
I had an off brand (taiwan made) 100 watt xenon type bulb in my truck and replaced them with the Sylvania Silverstars and they are actually brighter and whiter. I wasn't so sure they would be better because the bulb itself was smaller than the Taiwan bulb but I compared them side by side and they are an improvement

Those sylvania bulbs are advertised as "street legal", where would someone find bulbs that are "street illegal"? (only for use OFF the street where it IS legal, of course)

I just installed 80/100s in my sled... They say right on em... For off road use only!!
I tried one bulb at a time compared to my old 55/60 watt bulbs and they dont appear any brighter..
I think the rx has way more juice then it needs to keep the system going!

Welter: any chance that it might be sucking off the battery with the big load? Last thing you want to do is drive your battery dead.

I know that yamaha says there is a 40 watts (reserve) for accessories.
We drive a fuel pump full time on turbos and no problems...
A fuel pump needs more than 40 watts :ORC

i don't know if the electrical system is the same in bikes as in my sled (RX1m)... but i had some of the high wattage bulbs (90/110) in one of my bikes (yam R6), and they were fine in that... I had some in my Kawi (ZX6R), and they caused a problem in that. For some reason they got super hot when they were on high beam (i think they melted the bumper off the car in front of me when i flashed him)... and actually (no... seriously now...) melted the black rubber surround for BOTH the lights... the wires were melted etc... and quite a project to dis-lodge from the assembly.
I don't know if i'd try it or not.. I think i'm going to stick with stock wattage when i replace mine here shortly.

I was looking at those PIAA bulbs, the purple ones, "H4 Super Plasma GT-X" interest me because they're claimed extra bright and have a lifetime warranty. What has me scratching my head though, is that they are 60/55's and they say equivalent to 135/125.... WTF does that mean exactly? That they make the equivalent *brightness* as a normal 135/125 would (ie halogen)? Anybody have any idea if they are as great as they claim them to be or is it all just fluff? Should I get those given that they're low wattage, or would I get more brightness from something that is genuinely higher wattage?

LB what I do know from being in the lighting business is that the output is based on lumens. The Xenon units put out more Lumens (amount of light) per watt then their counterparts. I have seen those purple lights and they are damn cool

Ok guy's, I just put in the new bulbs last night, they are the H4 Halogens and they totally look brighter, they kind of have a blueish red tint to them around the edge's and it looks way cool. I decided to go with the 100/55 and they seem to work great. I made 1 pass down the grass track with them and came back and checked out the heat behind them, they were fine. My buddy who was standing at the start line when I was coming back
ask if I had the high beams on and I told him NO, He said DAMN those things are bright.
