direct quote from the bottom of the second link posted.

"Shift fork inside chaincase cover must go into the slot in the reverse gear. This is kinda tricky because you can not see if it slides in, you can only "feel" it slide into correct placement. It should slide nice and easy when correct! From there you can reassemble the chaincase and put the front plastic back on. If you have to put the rear skid back in you will need to unhook the torsion springs usually to get the rear mounting points to line up! You must have the cover tight before trying to use reverse. The lever should be in the "up" position and come down over the top of the slot in the reverse gear."

make sure you have everything in the right order on the reinstall and you shouldnt have too much of a problem with it.
i would say about 98.5% of all posts about having problems reinstalling issues have been probably been due to installing something in the wrong order or backwards.

Hold the lever arm up as you guide the cover on, the fork will follow it's way down the lower gear. At some point you will not be able to see it anymore, just keep easing the cover on, it may take a wiggle or two. If you are trying to do this with the link connected, forget it. disconnect the link at one of the two ball-ends, do not adjust the length of the rod itself. Once the cover is fully seated, try to move the fork arm, it should have very little play in it. At this point bolt the cover on, once the outer bolts are on reattach the shift-linkage, move shift lever and test. After that, button up all of the other parts, done.
