I'm been making some changes, mostly removing the tunnel protectors.
I swear I checked the service manual to make sure I had all the parts when I was putting the chain case back together but when I was just sweeping the floor, the guy above surfaced.
The only thing I can think that it could even possibly be inside the chain case is the circlip highlighted below:
I suspect this is the one. When I was trying to line up the reverse forks this time, when sliding the cover off for the 400th time to start over, the chain tensioner fell off and onto the floor and I'm guessing this popped off and went to the other side of the garage and I didn't notice.
I don't mind taking it off again but if someone can tell me this isn't the one, it could save me some time.
I've run the sled on the stand several times since testing my track tension as well as a temp gauge I'm installing and there has been no grenading chain case so that's why I'm not 100% sure.

That looks to be the size of it. I don't think you'd notice any sound as it probably doesn't have enough room in there to actually fall out...but...over time it may wear on the case and make room. Either way...take the cover off and be sure.

It looks to rusty to be from inside....
That looks like the one that holds the brake disc on.

Looks kinda small, no? That was my first inclination but it didn't look big enough...
EDIT...I just ran out to my sled and looked and from what I can see it may be the same.

Nope the brake disk one is a fair bit larger and is in fact in place.
The rust on this one has me wondering too BUT, I had to to away on business last week. Just before I left I closed up the chain case as I didn't want to leave it open. So if this is from in there, it has been sitting on the floor for over a week now so the rust isn't inconceivable.
I would pull the chain case but something is nagging me that this might be from elsewhere and I'm forgetting something that I have done in the last while with the sled! Either way, I don't feel comfortable riding it till I find out where this is from and put it (or a replacement) back.

You sir are a scholar and a gentleman.
The rust won it. A quick look over everything I touched on the sled yesterday revealed this came off the shaft that holds the tension spring adjusters. It must have popped off unnoticed when I was setting it back to hard after I installed the skid yesterday.
Mystery solved, 200ml of gear oil saved!
Thanks folks.

Just glad you found out where it came from, rather than on the side of the trail freezing your hands trying to figure out a way to limp it back because of 1 little snap ring.
No problem, that's what we are all here for, to help one another.
