Just curious, but when filling out the profile information that's required to login, why isn't the location marked as a 'required' item in order to process the information? Many times when filling profiles out on line in order to buy something, certain fields must be filled in or else the order can't be processed. I would think making the location a required field would alleviate the need for the moderators to continiously waste their time notifying new users to add their location.
Just a thought.

Hackers are a problem, they have automated programs to register and then spam the forums. I think MrSled has found it works better to not make that a required field in the begining.

Exactly what Tork said, its one of the only ways to keep spammers from registering.

this would be a bit hard to do now but you could have also made a forum where the new members have to post b4 they are added to a 'members group' also 1 more thing you could do if you have a spam issue is require users to type a security word when they login.

Could you explain that one a little better we already require a password to be typed in? Do you mean in addition too? Were always interested in finding new ways to keep the spammers out of here thanks for posting
