Does the short track have the same clearances and skid mounting locations and attack angles as the mountain version? I realize that the rear mounting will be different. Can it be as simple as bolting on a longer stock skid??? It appears that the seat is the same. New to Yamaha and am familiar with these types of mods but not this brand and its differences between models. Help!!??

you can purchase rail extensions, new track and tunnel extensions from many vendors..

c'mon, you tellin me none of you have these answers, yes I'm familiar with the extentions and such just not a fan of them, I was hoping there was someone with knowledge here that can tell me if the clearances are the same between the mountain and the short track if you were to throw in a 16 wide 2 1/2" lug?. Are the front mounting holes the same between the short and long skids?, does it have the same attack angle? are the drivers different?. Thanks.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in to tell you exactly what you are wanting, however I think I can answer some of your questions. The mountain apex uses extrovert drivers, the chaincase is in a different position to allow a different attack angle, and more clearance for the larger track. I do not know for sure, but doubt that the mountain has the tunnel protectors that we have on the apex/attaks. As far as the mounting of the track, my guess is that the front mount position is the same, but that is just a guess, and you already know that the rear drop brackets are needed. The RA adjuster also will give you a problem with the 16" track, but you would be removing it anyway. The gearing would also change. Hope this helps some before someone gets you more specific info.

Thanks for the reply, I didn't know about the chaincase this is the type of info I needed, I'm gonna try a different thread.

Are you sure of that? First I've ever heard of it. There is no clearance issue with the larger track (stock shorty = 1.25, removal of tunnel protectors adds an inch, smaller drivers = ~.4", that means that the MTX has PLENTY of room for the stock 2.25" track.)

Approach angle on the MTX downright blows. Its BARELY lower than the RTX, and thats due to the difference in the RAILS.

It also makes no sense AT ALL for them to do this from the factory, because all it does is increases the number of parts that need to differ between models. Approach angle can always be controlled at the suspension.

certainly could be wrong about the chaincase, but I thought they did this to all the mountain machines. May just be an aftermarket thing.
