I installed a 2 inch riser thinking that the stock cable would work only to find it was just a smidgen too short. I ordered a Mountain cable thru my dealer and it turned out to be only about 5mm's longer. Did my dealer get me the wrong cable or is the mountain cable only that much longer? It doesn't make sense to me, why make a cable only 5mm longer, just use the same one on both sleds.

i think he gave you the wrong cable.
I change my stock 04 mountain cable for a 05 mountain cable and the 05 is 3 inch longer.
because with 2 inch riser on the mountain, i need a longer cable

I put on a 3" riser. The cable I got was much longer. Try ordering from Mountain Performance.

I was just trying to stay with OEM stuff plus (Believe it or not) the Yamaha cable is over half the price of Mountain Performances.

Is the 05 Mountain cable longer than the 03 Mountain cable? I installed a 2" riser on my 03 Mountain with out having to replace my throttle cable. I would like to have a 3" or 4" riser and will ahve to replace the throttle cable for sure and maybe the brake line, but I'm not sure. If the 05 throttle cable is longer, is the brake line longer also?

I thought my cable was long enough to until I turned the bars all the way to the right and the machine lurched forward because the cable was too short and applied the gas.

Try running a Viper throttle cable - much longer. Works great on my mtn with a 3" riser.
