Looking at ski's for my 09 RTX

I have heard that the curve ski's work great on the Nytros.

DeerHuntr, if you aren't in a rush to get skis right away, stop by and see us at Haydays! We'd be more than happy to go over our product with you one on one. From there, you can make a decision that as Dave and Swiss suggest, is best for YOU!

For the interim, let us know if you have any questions about our product.

Skis

I had a RTXSE with Powder hounds last year. They are flat out awesome in any kind of Deep snow. However when you want to run quick corner to Corner they do not inspire confidence.

I totaled that sled and I bought a Used RTXSE which had C&A Pro Razors. The Guy I bought it from Raved about the Skis. I will let you know afte the first ride what I think.

I DO NOT recomend curves for the nytro, very scary experiences. My yamaha mountain skis outperform them hands down in any condition I tried them against and you dont have to refinance your house to buy them.

Thats what I'm going with...Yamaha Mountain skis with snow trackers.

Hey Justinator, I went to school at UMFK and might try to get up there on my sled next year during the international snowmobile festival. Can you recomend any snowmobile friendly cabins/cottages to rent near Fort Kent??

The saying "opinions are like @@@holes everyone has got one" comes to mind. Nobody really agrees on skis.

I really liked the mountain skis on 2 other sleds I tried, but I didn't like them on my XTX. Switched to C&A XTX's, thought they worked very well. Tried C&A's original ski on an Apex and Rx-1 didn't like them, but love them on my Viper. I have Simmons gen 1, SLP SLTs, SLP powder pros, and 2 different sets of C&As. I have yet to find a ski that works on every sled in all conditions. Some skis work better on certain sleds. I loved the Powder pros on a Polaris, I thought they sucked on my rx-1 and SRX 136" didn't try them on my XTX because they are so close to the Yami mtn. ski. Then you start talking suspension setup and carbides and it really gets messed.

What I have found on the Nytro is that you want an aggressive ski but not too much so. Lowering the front end/preload height improves handling and steering effort. I think the C&A XTX skis work very well for my sled. They have good floatation, steer well, and track excellent. I run 8 inch round bar carbides and HyGear triple rate springs.

Has anyone else has tried these skis?

I really suggest you try out "track down kennels and lodge" in wallagrass. Its only about 5 minutes on sled from fort kent. Really nice play to stay and theres a bar thats open thurs-sunday. Very affordable too. Theres some others but personally I think this is your best bet because its always nice to be able to get supper and a few drinks right where your staying. I'm there all the time in the winter. Pm me if you want their phone number

I did not like the mountain skis at all till I installed the qualipieces carbides. I think finding the right runner is essential for these skis. I swapped back and forth for over a month with the curves and literally lost days of riding trying to get the curves to work. I covered toe in and out settings, suspension and even different runners and the curves were downright dangerous. I would of felt safer with tires on the front of my sled.

Justinator,

Where did you get the qualipiece runners? How do they hold up as far as wear?

Right now I have SLP PP's on my XTX which are pretty close the mountain ski's from what I hear. I like the ski's fine but the carbides (OE SLP units) didn't hold up very well in my opinion. By the end of the season I was changing susp. setups all the time becuase the carbides wore down so quick. I had put around 900 - 1000 miles on them before the season was over, is this normal? It just seemed to me that the carbide grade was very soft.

I had purchased shaper bars to go with them, but they did not conform to the curvature of the ski. I think this year I'll go with shapers and have them bent in a press to fit, unless I can find something else like the qualipieces.

Thanks

The yamaha mountain ski's and slp powder pro's like stated above are virtually identical on the bottom of the ski's.

The snowtrackers look interesting. I see lots of good reviews. I hear they track well. Do they steer easier than a typical aggressive carbide, do they carve a corner???

I hear they track well...Yes like nothing I have tried, my dealer is now installing them on all the Nytros he sells all other Yamahas come with the qualipiece runners but I guess they feel the snowtrackers work better on the Nytro. (This is my first Yamaha so I have no experience with the qualipiece runners.)

Do they steer easier than a typical aggressive carbide, do they carve a corner?? I used to run 6 inch shapers on my ZR9 and they feel about the same once I played with my centre shock they would carve (Not like a ZR though). You do have to watch out in the spring when you hit bare ground...almost went over the handle bars the first time. LOL
