I have an 03RX1 that I started up today and is steaming from what I believe is either the 'engine' forward side of the front heat exchanger, or the exhaust area. Heat exchanger has no dings/stud marks , etc. Clean & dry. I've checked all of the hoses numerous times, done 2 compression tests, added 8lbs of air to the coolant system(can't see or hear any leaks). The system will hold the 8lbs for a little while... approx 2>3 hrs later the pressure has dissipated, with about 2 lbs left. Both side shrouds off, bottom plate off, had a good look around... some green drops here & there, but cannot pinpoint the leak. I've looked at the manual and the 2 main hoses to the exchanger are good/dry. There seems to be a smaller hose from the thermostat running to the top of the exchanger(as per manual) but can't see where/how to access that without tearing the sled to pieces!!! Any help/suggestions much appreciated. My thought tomorrow am are spray brake cleaner over everything, blow off with compressed air, then start it and pray to find the problem. What's pissing me off is now my mind is working 'overtime' with the 'suggestive' thought of a cracked block. My son & I were to take off Sat am for our annual W/E snowmobile trip.... doesn't look like it now!
The system was not overfilled..... coolant overflow hose and splatter was the 1st thing I checked

Can you find any drips on the floor? The heat exchangers are famous for leaking where the steel mounting plate is half way back and then the drip rolls down and falls off at the front of the exchanger.

I don't know if the rx-1 is the same as the vector, but when I had my vector apart I had a small crack around the nipple just underneath the cam tensioner,on the machine not the motor,it leaked over time and I never saw a drop.

Guys, thanks for your replies....! Fortunately, it was 'Operator Error'.! This is what I concluded. When put away 2 weeks ago, the machine was hot. I can only suggest the coolant overflow burped..., and, because the drain hose wasn't where it was supposed to be, it sprayed all over. Worse, we were going through a lot of powder that W/E, I'm betting the powder iced up the inside and when I started it yesterday, once warmed up, the steaming commenced, leading the 'Operator' to assume the worse! This morning, machine started up with proper amount of coolant in tank, warmed up, not a hint of steam. Took it for a drive, beat the living hell out of it, (to teach it a lesson! LOL!). Tested it again this afternoon with another hard ride... all good! My son just received a call to pack his things, we're leaving Sat am early for our annual W/E outing....! The old man heads south at the end of the month(agreement with wife!) and won't return until April..... so... I'm a happy camper! Hope everyone gets as 'lucky' as I did..... sleep on things, it gets better in the morning!
