I agree. I have put on quite a few miles on my buddy's '12se. The clutching is good for the trails and lakes.
Not a fan of the Floats tho. He likes to drive mine when the trails get a little rough. The 136 with a revalvle and multi rate spring soak up them bigger bumps with ease compared to the Mega. imo
I stud every sled I drive. I drove my Attak for 50 miles bone stock. Every time I went over an approach the rear slid or spun out at 50+ mph. Not a good feeling.
You need to be careful when studding the EXUP sleds. Extra protection is needed to protect it.
The EXUP sleds are faster. My buddy walks away from me every time. Even with all my mods.

well mine is an xtx and it is clutched so i can crawl through the trees at less than 5mph without burning belts. lowest it went stock was 15mph and i could smell the belt burning. added bonus with it clutched this way is that when it has traction it transfers like mad for me and i still hit 100mph with it.

The Viper will not outrun the 40th Apex! I have one with 30k on it and it still consistently pulls 114 mph on the gun. Stock Viper is nowhere close.
If I end up getting this 2011 , studs might have to be an option with some tunnel protection as well.. I'd probably just throw some studs down the middle, the extra weight doesn't bother me as I'd be buying this sled for mostly trail/lake anyways. Any good student/track recommendations? I don't know if you saw the link for the SE I was looking at in the original post but the owner did put on a full f/r hygear setup, which I've heard is very nice
Makes sense for sure! But having a shorty apex , I want 110-115mph , for the few times I actually go that fast, I want it to pull like crazy thru the mid and top end
Yea , the cousins viper xtx and my nytro xtx are near dead even from any speed taking off. He gets a better low end , I'm guessing because of the track ( cobra vs ripsaw. ) But still I think I've only been up to 102-104 area on my nytro.. I just love the silky smooth response of the apex and the sound as well

It's all about traction and commitment. I will agree, I can't outrun him if he's already got speed. But from a standing start, my Viper will walk away from the 40th Anniversary every time. I consistently see 105-ish MPH.
Yea I'd love to find a nice xtx in the price range I'm in ( around $5000 ) we have some around here that look to be very clean and well maintained , but are all around 7k

The SE I'm looking at has the ice ripper track, but obviously won't grab like studs, but seems better than nothing at all.. what is the lug height on the ice ripper, and what might some safe options be?

You're paying for mileage it looks like. 9200 isn't horrible. If you work on your own sleds, it wouldn't bother me much. I have an 08 LTX I bought last year w/ about 4k on it for 4400. Great sled. Have had to fix a few things. Nothing major. These are great motors. Been a dependable sled.

Ulmer came up with a solution using the factory tunnel protectors to protect the million dollar EXUP. I have copied that on my buddy's '12 SE. The mod works very well and there are no marks on the EXUP after 4 seasons.
I put 1.325 studs on his original Ripsaw track.
The Ice RipperXT is 1.22" lug. Same track I use on my Attak now. It does give you that extra traction on ice when needed.

Yea , I'm not worried about 9200 miles when the sled has papers, tons of maintenance, upgrades, always stored inside, from the original owner. Anything can happen to anysled at anytime... But for what it's worth, I'm really hoping the deal with the SE goes thru and it doesn't sell. I've wanted an apex for a while.. only main concern is getting them to hook, and the stud issue

The ice attak seems like it would do a bit better, and maybe even good enough for this season anyways, but was just wondering on other options! So , thanks again for all the info.
Hopefully it doesn't sell and he will let it go for $5k, as I think that would be a pretty good deal, well for this area at least.
We don't have much snow here at all ( Duluth/Superior area , ) so it might be only river and lake riding for a while anyways
