I'm thinking about gearing up my 06 Nytro to be closer to a Vector GT. I'm not concerned about top end or corner to corner. My biggest complaint is higher revs when running wide open trails for long distances. From what I've read, the Nytro is geared 21/40=1.90 and the Vector is 22/38=1.73. A 23/40=1.74 is very close to the Vector and 22/40=1.82 is right in between. (I would sooner not replace the lower gear). I know I'm spinning faster than the Vectors because they always get me at the pumps after running fast straight trails.
What would be the pros/cons of a 22 or 23 top gear and can I do it without replacing the chain?

Brad, I went to 21/38 this winter on my 07 RS Nytro. It did require a shorter chain though. Your riding style sounds very comparable to mine. I found it dropped my RPM's by about 500 when rding aroung 50-85 km's/hr. I don't ride with any Vector's anymore (ex brother-in-law has one) but my fuel economy did improve over last year. Don't know about top end haven't checked since gear swap.

Thanks Aaron, Good info... That should give me what I'm looking for!
One question. Why not go 22/40 instead of 21/38? The ratios are almost identical (1.818 vs 1.810) and you can reuse the bottom gear and maybe even the chain.

Hey boys,
I wen't up a tooth (21-22) before I ever rode my sled. You will not need a longer chain to go up one tooth on top. Ican't compare RPM between the two, byt the one tooth is a fairly "Tall" change in geering. Any more than this and yu will not be able tol pull it this a 120. The vector is overgeared out of the box.
