Okay people here it is...I am in the process of planning my next sled. I have been Ski-Doo since 1981 and have never had complaints with the product that I have purchased - can't say the same for the dealers I have dealt with but thats for another day. Anyway my initial plan was a Renegade 600 HO SDI but the more I look into other products the more I keep coming back to the Attak. So how about you guys give me some advice on why I should go Attak over Renegade. Here is my type of riding - there are no trails where I live other than those made years ago by hunters, animals or people cutting wood. We run these plus railbeds, transmission lines, bogs, marshes, ponds, lakes, logging/mining roads, etc. For A Doo rider like me these conditions make a Renegade seem like a natural progression when upgrading but there is something about the Attak that makes me want one. Help convince me. Currently I run a 03 Grand Touring with a whole bunch of kilometers on it and an 1 1/4 track upgrade.

I switched from Doo to yamaha last year after 15 years owning ski-doo's getting a brand new one every year. I would never go back from this 4 stroke sled ever again. These sleds are hands down better. This is also the first sled I have kept for 2 years in a row since 1995.

Who needs all that power tho unless you race alot or travel speeds over 90 alot? Get a Rage much lighter better gas milage great trail sled and its a bullet proof motor with a great chasis...just my 2-cents.. And its less $$ to buy!!

I am familiar with the 600 rev and my new rtx. I can say I trade off with my brother's 600 rev so he can ride my new rtx and the biggest things I notice are: I wish my rtx was as light as his 600 and he wishes his 600 would pull like my rtx! That being said, to compare apples and apples I would say the weight between the renegade and the attack is not that far apart. The power between the 600 and the attack ARE that far apart. If you were looking at a lighter 600 rev I would say you will feel the weight difference but since you are looking at the heavier renegade, you might as well go with the attack. I am a power nut, and the 4 stroke power is addicting. (you may want to change the skis as the yamaha doesn't seem to float as well when breaking new trails. this is my feeling anyway.

Long time skidoo guy here, would never ever go back to a 2 stroke ever again. Extremely happy with my new apex gt, I don't regret the change one bit.

i ride with guys on doos all the time they all have revs and talk about how u cant beat the SDI but i laugh when its really cold out (got to -24 last weekend) and that SDI wouldnt start but not my apex gt. and on the ride difference i find that the my sled handles as well as any rev and the attak takes the bumps just as well cause of the longer tracks. my fav is when we get to the lake and its SEEEEEEEEEEE YAAAAAAAAA

Stay out of real deep snow if you get the attak.

No, just make sure you cabn do a track exchange and get a 1.5" paddle or 1.25 paddle. The ripsaw track that comes with it sucks in powder and get the mountain skis for it and you will be good to go. But, I would look at the new cylinder that is coming in the sno-x chassi for next year in 08? It will be lighter and around 130hp...Turk said:Stay out of real deep snow if you get the attak.

attak's an awesome sled, turk is right, if you get into real deep snow the are tough, but the renegade is no light weight either, it's all preference, the renegade is a good machine also

I rode DOO for about 25 yrs...always liked yammies but wanted speed of machs...well,now that ive gone 4 stroke,i could never go back to 2 stroke....
you will understand once you own one...its not a throw away sled like those doos are.
sure we have our issues but never anything major like Doos can have...
no more blowing belts or motors..just hold it to bar and let her rip mile after mile...this motor loves to be held!
BTW,i have my RTX running skitip to skitip with 07 mach zs...not bad for 20hp less!.....

Yes I agree might as well wait now and see whats coming out in 08-- 3 cyl 4 stroke fuel injected 130 hp is what most are predicting in a sno-x-chassi >>HELL YEAH!!SledFreak said:No, just make sure you cabn do a track exchange and get a 1.5" paddle or 1.25 paddle. Former die hard doo fanatic here, After 4 consecutive years of failed engines I bought and 06 RTX and loved every moment on it.... after owning the Yamaha I wouldnt give anything ski doos got available today a second look. The RTX gave me permagrin from the moment I fired the engine till the time I stuffed it back in the trailer.

yeah I know all about Ski-duds and failing engines thats what brought me to a yammi 4 stroke! And since then I see guys with ski-duds have same probs I was having with junk engines and other numberous problems ..those things are throw aways!!

Hmmm...thanks for the replies people. What concerns me is all the crap you people seem to have to go through and add onto your sleds just to keep hyfax on, keep noise down and to be able to steer properly, plus it seems like the tracks suck in deeper snow. These are all things that would have to be taken care of before taking possession of a machine and they are all at a cost to an already expensive machine. I don't want to buy something that I've got to put another bunch of money into before riding it. And it seems from reading through this site that these problems run right across the Yamaha line. If I pick a Renegade I just back it off the trailer and go. As for the negatives listed for Doo - I have never experienced them nor have my riding buddies. What I want is dependability, decent speed & power, the ability to run deeper snow, good mileage plus lately I have been feeling a little more eco-friendly (took my kid to see that movie Happy Feet and it gets you thinking). Perhaps tha Rage is the way to go cuz I don't have to be the first one down Kevlar Lake. Decisions, decisions...
Right now I have the option of an 06 Attak and an 05 Rage at a local dealer who is quite motivated to sell. But then again I am in no rush and perhaps it would be best to see what is in store for 08.
