I just thought I would comment on my experience of sleds over past years and how happy I am on my apex compared to a lot of new chassis that everyone thinks they need. I have bought NEW yamahas every 2 to 4 years since 1995. Only one time did I needed warrenty work and that was on my 1998 srx700 that all had crank problems. But this year after reading all the hype on ski-doo xp I bought a used 10 xrs with 600 e-tec for my wife. I was excited to ride it very light and great shocks. Not to bash ski-doos but they are not that much better at anything other than ruff trail performance compared to my 11 apex. And they are week. Always tearing suspension wheels off, tore up single ply track slightly bumped front bumper into another sled and bent up to easly IMO. I was very close on buying new viper but I ride with a lot of new cats and can not believe the endless problems they have. I have a friend with new 2013 800rr has blown 2 belts 1 chain case and is on 2nd starter this year alone. Another has a 12 turbo, blows belts every 500 miles 1 chain case and many other misc problems ever time we ride. I could comment and more of my other Buddys all with turbos and are always some thing wrong mainly belts and chain case issues. But I see everyone upset Yamaha did not build new light weight chassis this year for apex. Have you actually rode other brands on the trail side by side? IMO the apex is as good or better than anything on a groomed trail! And I have rode them side by side. And you can beat the tar out of it and not have it ruin your weekend like more and more of these light weight through away sleds are becoming! Thank you Yamaha for building me your apex. It is a great sled and does not get the credit it deserves IMO.

I AGREE, if you want a sled for Boondocking or you prefer to ride rough trails fast or purposefully bumps like you are a snow cross rider the light weight sleds are significantly better.
BUT if you like me trail ride, prefer groomed smooth trails then the Yamaha delta II chassis is hard to beat. When you add in reliability it wins. I have Apex 12k, 2 vectors 3&9k, GT venture 3 k and the old XTC with 14k and one time I walked home, totally my fault -loose bolt I forgot oh yea for complete disclosure I did put a stud through heat exchanger

I was thinking the same thing last night riding my '12 XTX on mostly ungroomed trails. We've gotten over 2 feet of snow in NH the last 10 days. On those tight trails last night, with heavy snow, running between 30 and 50 mph for 75 miles, my shoulders would be junk today if I was riding one of my other sleds.
As much as we complain about weight, stiff chassis, and basically nothing but color changes for the 2011-2015 Apex, it's just an awesome machine. I rode all the others at last years demo days, including the Viper and even though it's taken some minor mods to dial it in, I can't think of another machine on the market right now that I'd rather be riding.
Keep snowing, we'll be going to late April/May at this rate!

My XTX is yet to see an area it couldn't go, and others could.

I could not agree more! I don't care if it is a 10 year old design...I LOVE IT! The power and reliabilty can not be matched. I love knowing that no matter how hard I ride, I will be RIDING back home or to the trailer...NOT GETTING TOWED. Two weeks ago I had to pull a Polaris 800 back to the gas station in Sidnaw, MI because he cooked the engine. Now he is thinking that a Yamaha might be in his future too! The Apex is getting overlooked with all the hype about the Viper. I rode one up at Pats in Greenland and I am not impressed. Keep in mind that I had 100 miles on my power steering Apex to that point in the day, but I felt that steering was heavy and it felt like only had half the power of my Apex. I won't even get into the wind protection on the Viper... I love the Apex and hope they continue to build them for years to come!

I finally got my seat where I want it (WRP) and put a set of snow trackers on my 08 GT and I love it. Already planning on doing a 136 conversion when I replace my track. Only got 4000 miles on it. At this rate I should be able to ride it for the next 20 years. And by the way talking about reliability my oldest son is still riding my 97SX . He rolled 10,000 miles on it two weeks ago. I bought the sled when he was 4 years old. He'll be 21 in a few months. The only thing that has failed on it is one slider rail and the pull starter. Not bad. Still runs great.
The only time it has been towed is when he put 10 gallons of diesel fuel in it. lol

Rolled 7,000 miles on my baby! It just gets better every time I take her out! I love walking those 800 light weight newer Doo"s Poo's and Kittys.
