I added these low snow wheels in the offseason. I installed them based on last seasons wear on the Hyfax putting them directly in the center of the main wear point. I checked my hyfax tonight as I was going through all the suspension bolts etc and noticed that the wear point had just moved up (ahead of the wheels where the red arrow is pointing). I have 200 miles on so far this season and the wear point in front of the low snow wheels is probably 70% worn. How do you guys have your wheels spaced and has anyone else experienced this?

I couldn't open your pic. Get an error message "attachment does not exist anymore".

Anyway, I wanted to avoid just what your experiencing so I added two sets of those wheels. Head on over to this thread for my writeup and photos:

Prav, I put a set about where yours are only on the inside of the rails along with another set on the outside where your arrow is. No wear there anymore. Also run my track tension on the loose end of spech with no ratcheting.

I know I mounted my marg wheel kit further ahead, I would move ahead and redrill but I can't remember the distance and my sled is 300 miles away right now. I think it was 3" from the bolt in front of the arrow.

At this point I think something has to be done... I guess there's 2 options:

1. Move the existing wheels forward 1-2 inches. (I think this runs a chance of wear shifting around the wheels again)

2. Install a 2nd set of wheels a few inches ahead of the set I have

Went with option #2... Just ordered another low snow wheel kit. I'm going to install this one a few inches further up the rail. This one will go on the inside as that's where i'm seeing more wear. I will post results after my trip to the UP in a few weeks.

Prav, you mounted yours way closer to the front idler than I did. Apart from trying to distribute the weight, I tried to make it look good by putting them an equal distance from each other. I had wear under that front original idler, which told me that it was inadequate. So along with the two sets of marg snow wheels, I changed almost all my idlers to 5.25" (133.35mm) wheels (Yamaha's are 130mm). I also run my track looser than specified, fully clipped the track and adjusted my front strap up one hole. In about 400Km, I have yet to see any wear.

I would suggest:
1. Move the wheels you installed ahead an inch or two
2. Install a second set of marg snow wheels
3. Change your idlers to 5.25" wheels.

I ordered my wheels from this place at a sweet price:

have 2 sets installed like mooseman up front. just put on this year & after 300+ miles so far barely any wear.
suprisingly still on the original set of hyfax with 800+ miles.

My small wheels like that eat up bearings about once every 1000mi.Watch them closely or you will lose the whole wheel.

On my previous sleds I have always run my track as loose as possible but not ratching, my question is, My phazer has a studded track and tunnel protectors, do I have to worry about the track being to loose ( not to the point of ratching) but excessive wear on the protectors causing damage? This is my first sled with studs.

I have seen posts about that (probably yours) but this is the only size available. Maybe it affects those that run their sleds faster than average, spinning those small wheels faster? I have looked at possible ways to use bigger wheels but thereès just not enough "meat" on the rails to use Doo mounts and wheels. Even thought of using two mounts on each side of the rail with large washers to fill the void but they would have had to be exactly the same thickness as the rail. Too complicated so I'm trying these out and see how they hold up.

I hear you.Spent a bit looking and couldnt figure out a way to add bigger wheels there either. So just broke down and bought some new wheels with NTN bearings.I believe my second set of bearings were China made.Dont remember what first set was.I am also going to try running track tighter. Was watching a buddy riding mine on river and under hard acceleration could see the track bulged up right in that spot where slides wear.Probably lead to wear somewhere else though till I get the bigger wheel replacements like you did.

i used low snow wheels on my 07 FX and while they helped, they just moved the wear forward - the wheels tend to burn up and like said before, the bearings go away in a season or so - i've only got 400 miles on my polaris wheel setup, but so far it looks like the hyfax wear is mostly gone.

Did you have to fab anything with 5.25 idlers or just replace the existing wheels? Did you replace the inside wheels as well or just the outside?
