I have installed a stock RX-1 engine/cvt into a dune buggy and am looking at a way to lower the engagement to about 2k to 2.5k. I know it is done by changing the spring or adding weight to the shoulder of the arms(please correct me if I'm wrong). Question is what spring or how much weight should I add? Thanks in advance for your help.

You can go with a YXR short spring to lower engagement more that the original YXR long spring will allow for.

I don't know what spring you have in there now, but a PINK-YELLOW-PINK with preload/total force of 25/122 would get your engagement close compared the a stock long spring YELLOW-SILVER-YELLOW 35/118.

Thanks. When I called Dalton they told me not mess with it, and that if I lowered the engagement I would lose a lot on the top end. If I use the short spring you recommend is this still the case?

You could try a PINK-PINK-PINK short spring 30/128, engagement would be around 2800 rpms with stock weights and top end rpms should be pretty close to stock spring. Springs are inexpensive, buy a few and test them in your application. I did run this spring in my RX-1 to run lower rpms for engagement and lower rpms cruising, wot rpms were above 10000 rpms. BTW with the stock spring rpms never went past 10000 rpms. Have a good time riding the buggy :)

engagement

the engagement rpm is all ready lower than you think as gear drive on the end of the moter makes the clutch rpm lower than the moter rpm.

CONTACT HITECH PERFORMANCE AND ASK FOR THEIR "WHIMPY" SPRING. IT WILL GIVE YOU WHAT YOU WANT.
