This just happened less than an hour ago in Manitowoc!!!!
When I left for work this morning, I noticed some tracks in our yard that loked like a dog was running and playing fetch by the skid marks in the fresh snow, didn't think nothing of it. I got to work and mrs was just about to leave when the motion light behind the house went on and she saw someone running. She called my work and said there are human tracks everywhere! I told her to call the police. The police were there in 2 minutes with an undercover car, then a police car and the sherrif truck. They were going thru everybodys yard trying doors of garages and houses from what the police told her. When she called me after she left, she said the police were questioning people at McDonald's.
Lucky I wasn't home or they would have met mr. Smith and Wesson and been surprized by Desert Eagle! It's about time we get rid of this trash!
Make sure your doors are locked on everything!

My truck was broken into on Oct 28th (my birthday none the less) and my laptop and ipod was stolen. The police recovered the laptop unharmed, but the ipod and usb keys with my business backups are still gone. It was a bunch of pot-head high school kids. My hats off to law enforcement.
My truck was in my driveway, right outside my bedroom window. Normally my cell phone on vibrate will wake me up, but I didn't hear a darned thing that night.
No one is safe, thats for sure.

Be careful here in Wisconsin. You can not shoot someone that is going thru your stuff.
Your life has to be in danger, you WILL go to jail if your just protecting your personal property!!!!!

Well that sort of applies here to in MN.......
You can reasonably defend your property (if not in the home), but you have a duty to retreat before using lethal force.....
If in your home, you have no duty to retreat but you can only use reasonable force, and only enough force necessary to protect your self and family. This is a confusing quagmire......
MN is trying to adopt the "Castle Doctrine," which is basically absolute immunity for defending you and other human occupants in your home....
MN is goofy. I guess i wouldn't advise blasting someone looting out your garage. But a tire iron to the torso?????? Hmmmm. That may just be reasonable, eh?

I sleep with a Machete under my bed and a Billy club concealed in the bedroom also, this is just incase someone would happen to get that far undetected. But if detected early enough I have an AK-47 with over 1,000 rounds a mix of ballistic tips and hollow points in 30 round mags. The go to gun of choice though is my Russian made Saiga S-12 semi-auto 12 guage with several hundred rounds in 5 and 8 round mags. then for back up a few .357's. But they have to get past the dogs first.

XDm .40 and a Mossberg 500 12 gauge are my home defenders. Make sure your significant others are well trained also.

Just aquired a .22 semi-auto for teaching the wife and daughter to shoot with it's a lot less intimidating than starting out with the .357's. My son shoots the Ak-47 and the S-12 and the .357's one of them being his. As said above Gun control means hitting what you're aiming at.

Yep, I know that I can't shoot him for looting, but he enters my house by ripping off my storm door, he isn't there to chit-chat and have a beer, he is there to harm.
This isn't the first time this has happened to me. The first time was right after we moved in, the guy pushed in our front storm door window and was in the back of the house ripping off our storm door. I called the police and they were there within minutes, but when the officer saw I was holding a 9MM just on the other side of the door, he shouted for the man to get down on the ground. The officer asked for my gun after they cuffed and stuffed the guy and said, "Sure glad he didn't get in your house otherwise it wouldn't have been the police you would have called, it would have been the coroner. 2 weeks later, the same policeman (officer Tenakin) was shot and killed in a parking lot on the northside of town.
UPDATE as I was typing this.....
Got a call from the officer....
The black male is 6ft. 180lbs, younger male wearing a grey parka with black stripes. The police tracked him for an hour before losing him but they have a suspect who has been caught previously for theft and does not hold a job so he is stealing to make a buck. The police told me that his mom was home and could have been covering for him, but they do have prints and tracks and will be comparing the prints to his shoes when they go back to his house. He lives 4 blocks from me and just this morning has tried to get in houses and garages spanning 10 blocks! He was last seen on Custer street which is 7 blocks from my house, that is how long the police tracked him this morning. If the shoes match he will be charged.
You guys are so right, I think of my wife and 2 boys 7 and 10 walking out to the garage and being surprised by these f'n creeps! My wife is only 5' 4" and doesn't weigh anymore than 125 lbs., there is no way she could defend herself.

I'd expect that here in the big city but not there! I just got hit 2 times in 3 months and now I was in PA visiting the folks for Turkey Day and my bank called - someone is passing off duplicated checks on my account. But the idiots used old check #'s that had cleared months ago. So I am from out east where you can buy a gun with food stamps and crayon drawn ID. I fly back to MN and find out I need permission from my local sherrif to purchase a hand gun to keep in my own home for protection.
What the he&%%&*%&^%&%& I could have brought my 10 or so magnums back on the plane with me but I cannot go into a store here and just go through the normal fed backround check and buy one.
The police won't investigate the crime, they say it is up to my bank, my bank says I did not get hurt and the amounts are too small for them to expend any energy on.
Well I had to cut my vacation short by 5 days and buy a new plane ticket $295 (don't get me started on this deal converting my existing ticket would cost $400) I had to cancell the account I have $200 worth of checks and materials tied to teh account. I had $43,000 in checks (about 35) that have to be re-written and all of them that were deposited will be returned to my suppliers which I will be responsible for returned check fees bringing this to about $1,225.00 not to mention the people that ended up with bad checks that have my name and my co. name on them (7 so far) that thought they were doing business with me.
