Have some premature slider wear at 1100 miles and I always road in good snow conditions to boot.Yamaha should really address this problem free of charge.Wishful thinking eh?
Where has guys been mounting these kits Yamaha sells? At the back just in front of the rear wheels or near the front wheels.
l was thinking about putting the wheel kit at the back and then running an extra set of wheels near the front ones as well.I also bought the graphite sliders to see if it helps.

Any input here would be great

Thanks

I mounted one a few inches ahead of the front wheels and I'm mounting another set towards tyhe back. The front kit really helped pull some pressure of the front of the slides.

Check out Pioneer performance, one of the site sponsors, for what you need. I ordered the small wheel kit for the front and the Hyfax extender kit also. Some guys have just put on bigger wheels but I don't feel quite safe doing that JMO. Gene

Mounted my marginal wheel kit in front of the front wheels right at the bend in the rail. So far so good but only 300 miles on them after install
last year.

I do not have the kit but I do have an RTX. I had wear the first couple hundred of miles and then they lasted for a long time? I have 2800 miles on my 07 and only used one set of slides.

I Installed the lil wheels just in front of the rear wheel. This is where the sliders were wearing down on me..Seems to have solved the problem as the sliders are now wearing down uniformly..

I have used two kits on on several past sled including an Apex. Following the instructions for mounting locating precisely. These have helped tremendously in addition to running the track as loose as possible without causing ratcheting. Be very careful especially when mounting the rear wheels as when the suspension compresses fully, which it does do, you want to bottom against the rubber stopper and not the wheels.

Mine also seems to wear the most when the slides are new and once they get down to halfway they seem to last forever. Not sure if that helps you at all.

I have my suspension out on my Attak doing maintenance including the slides for the first time. Mine have lasted for 7500 miles without any wheel kits. Have rode in every kind of condition, but I run with my track very loose. Not sure if the RTX's wear different or not.

i bought a set used and was wondering if you guys are drilling a 1/4 inch hole in the rails?

if you are using a yamaha kit........put the mount on the outside of the rail where you want it to be. Right above the bolt hole for the wheel you will see a very small hole. Using a 5/16 drill bit go through the rail. Then remove the mount and drill the 5/16 hole out with a 25/64 bit. Then bolt the mount to the rail using red loctite and then bolt the wheel to the mount. I used blue loctite for the wheel. They do it like this so you have a centered pilot hole before you drill your big hole. Works very slick.

I had serious issues with slide wear on my 07 RTX also. You can search for posts by me here about it. Admittedly the snow conditions were marginal at best most of last season.

My fix for wear at the curve in the rails was to replace the drive sprockets with Skidoo intro/extrovert drivers and then run the track fairly loose.

My fix for wear in the middle of the skid was to install a pair of optional Yamaha idlers in the 3rd pair of idler mounts. If you look at the on-line fische at yamaha-motor.com you can see all of the parts and where they install. This is not the regular marginal snow kit, but is an extra set of stock size idlers that can optionally be installed specifically for the RTX or Nytro.

With the two of these, the slider wear was still rapid for the first 1/2 and then it slowed right down. We went on a long saddle bag trip and ended up running out of snow. After about 50 miles with literally no snow, my sliders never wore through. This same trip also included over 1000 miles on absolutely rock hard ice trails (huge rain storm with +20°C temperatures followed by -25°C temps and us riding these conditions for 3 days, 12 hours per day). An Apex ER with me went through 4 pairs of slides on the same trip.

Still, since they still always wore 1/2way through so quickly, this season I'm seriously considering also installing Skidoo idler wheels. The extra 2.5mm of radius will give an extra 2.5mm of margin to the slider wear everywhere except at the very rear.

Another tip for you is to make sure all of the idler wheels are down as low as they will go. If you loosen the bolts off, you'll find the idlers can move up and down a good 1/4". If they move up, either from where they were installed or from hitting hard bumps, the slides will wear very quickly. This is a very common cause of very fast slide wear with all of Yamaha 4-strokes.
