Planning to do a back pack trip starting out in Marquette and spending the night in Copper Harbor, then returning back to Marquette the next day in the 3rd week of Feb.

Anybody make that run? Hotel suggestions? Route suggestions? I heard it was about 260mi each way.

Thanks!

Tom

I have a group of buddies that are doing that same thing but we are leaving from Watersmeet at the casino. The routes up are fairly easy to figure out as everything is well marked. Just get a map or look online for a map, should give you a good idea. johndee or this http://www.fishweb.com/recreation/snowmobile/trails/. Hotels in copper harbor: The mariner north resport, The pines, fanny hoe resort.....there are others but those are the ones right off the main drag that I can think of. I called Mariner north tonight with no answer so I ended up booking with the Pines resort. Price is right and it can't be any more outdated then fanny hoe resort :tg:

Its a pretty easy trip, as we did it last year even with a breakdown in Houghton with time to spare. We are planned to start at the casino Feb 22nd AM, might see you up there :drink:

I'm staying in twin lakes that whole week. Maybe we can hook up one of the days and I can drool over ur skinz frt end... Staying at park view from 22nd till the 1st. As for the OP, it is a great ride from there. We rode last year from pine stump to baraga, then up the keweena and stayed at park view next night. Was a great trip. Well marked. You can cover a lot of miles fast going north or south on trail 3...

yea i dont think ill do to much riding saturday, maybee some off trail exploring. big rides start sunday to avoid the traffic. Looking really good for a great week if it stays cold..

Do you remember what the mileage was from Pine Stump to Baraga? I've been considering doing something similar (Curtis to Bruce Crossing or Kenton/Sidnaw)

I don't remember cuz we had a breakdown around ishpeming. I think around 250 or so...

Be careful riding on trail 8 through the Michagamme area. There are still some massive rocks sticking out of the trail.

Just got back from a 4 day run in the U.P. Tues-Sat. Trails were very good with not as much traffic as I expected. Started at Watersmeet at the casino, rode to Houton stayed the night, then rode to Marquette, stayed at the super 8 (Not too bad to get to it) Then did a 250 mile loop up to Christmas and Gwinn back to Marquette, the from Marquette back to the Casino. Trails were 80% great with the ocasional ruff stretches along the power lines where the groomer can't get, 700 miles of good riding!
