Has anyone installed the Maxximum remote oil filter kit yet and if so where does it mount and how bad was it to install? Is it worth the investment.?

Yes; Actually pretty simple to install and less mess to change filters. And a whole lot easier to unscrew now.

And they just revised their kit as there is a new replacement elbow, for a better fit around the battery.

It is a little pricey, but I liked it and put it on.

I agree with JDKRXW. Also, it seems that for that amount of $$$ they would place it pointing down in an area that requires no disassembly.

With the filter upside down.....it will drain out on its own BEFORE you remove it. You might get a few drips out of it, thats it. ===SRXSRULE===

i wouldent pay 10 cents for a kit that mounts the filter upside down. if you design something from the ground up to make it better, why would you leave the mess like the origional? its upside down and it dosent drain out. glad ive seen pictures, now i know i wont buy one

I haven't looked into it yet, but I bet one of those marine engine relocation kits would work. you get plate adapter that mounts to the original location, a new filter base and rubber hose with swagged threaded end fittings. Just mount the new Base to a convenient spot like maybe in that useless little case in the nose.

Wouldn't being upside down drain the crap back out into your motor or do the filters work that well?

They have one that comes with several adapters that screw into the existing filter mount hole, which is all that matters, aslong as one of the adapters is the same thread. The new filter end doesn't matter because you can use whatever filter fits it.

Looking at the first picture again, it seems like the filter base would fit if it was flipped over (so the filter is not upside down). You would think that Maxxim would have supplied the oil lines for the filter in this position.

Sure is a big difference in filter size. PH8A to the Ymaha filter. Barely enough room as it is now.

You don't have to use that filter. There are different adapters and filters taht will fit. The point is it is the same basic thing for alot less money.

Hats off to the Bountyhunter for the excellent pictures. Thanks for all the pictures and by the way, there are other manufacturers that have the filter upside down without any ill effects as the oil flow is still going through the filter when the engine is running due to the oil pump pressure. As far as unfiltered oil draining back that is not and issue as any oil that is drained back has already flowed through the filter. If you look at an oil filter closely and look at how the oil flows, the oil flows throught the center of the filter under pressure and flows through the filter and comes out the smaller hoes on the outer portion of the filter. there really isn't any danger in mounting the oil filter upside down as it has been done for many year in other applications.
