I was interested in the Ulmer remote oil filter for my 08 Apex, but found out that they are no longer selling them. Does anyone know of an alternative? Thanks

I had one. Sold it. Figured out that they introduce more risk than they afforded in the line of comfort. Basically, it is easy to change the filter and it is good to get your eyes down in that part of the sled once in a while anyway.
Also the term "remote" is relative. It was not as remote as I would have liked to see.

Oil lines w/o solid fasteners (slip-on hoses) on the ends make me nervous. Then there is the rubbing that lines did as they were floppin' around. It just did not look like a good long term situation, to me. I guess its a personal decision.
That being said, I am.... eh, was (retired this month) a Sr. Project Manager at an N-Plant. We have learned a lot about using flex-hoses on oil systems in high vibration environments. Nothing we learned was ultimately positive. In most cases, we went back to solid pipe. Also, we learned that shorter routes = less risk. So, I tend to be a bit nervous with flex-hoses to start with.

I see...my thinking was those hydraulic hoses seem really tough...the fittings had serious torque and arent ever coming off by themselves...and no flopping with lots of vinyl slit tubing as a protective sleeve with zip ties holding in place....I have more serious concerns with the exhaust donuts etc.

I agree with Len. For a once a year 1 hour job I can not imagine why anyone would spend the money and risk an engine failure that would not be warrantied.
Why do you think that Ulmer is no longer selling them?

I dont believe because of failures...not worth the money he invests and what he can get in return...
to me another benefit is my larger than stock oil filter (better filtering) gets cooled by my cold air kit....
I would be interested in hearing from allen that there were failures...of course other than user error...and that can happen with a mistake by someone doing an oil change wrong as well

We stopped selling them simply because we didn't have enough demand for them. We have never seen a failure and neither did Maxximum Performance when they sold them for the RX-1 models. The pressure drop in the hose was very very minimal (I would have to do some digging to find those notes).

Thanks for the clarification Allen.
I was not inferring that that you stopped selling them because of failures, but rather that most people felt as I do, that there is no real need for this product.
