New to turbos
Bought a attak last year it's stock with
just some clutching & gearing
Was really impressed with it
So this year I found a good deal on a
Turbo apex mcx 310
Question is how much boost should I be
able to run at sea level
It suppose to have head shim & cams
Can you tell if it as a shim just by looking ?
Don't want to blow it up
So I was planning on filling her up with c12
Until I see what she's sat on
Guy said he was only running 4-5 lbs
Any input will be great
Also as a turbo smart controller
Thanks

I don't think his story is adding up if he has a 310 kit and a head shim I can't see why he would be only running 5lbs.

Should be able to run minimum of 15lbs. of boost with the mods listed above on pump gas. You should be able to tell if there is a shim under the head by looking on side of the motor. Get all the details about the sled induding any mods before you buy it.

X2 on what Badsled says

I all ready got it bought
The reason he was only running 5 lbs
Is he was trail driving it
Just trying to see for sure what I have
Before I run it
Got a lot of goodies
Cr tunnel
Montain mod seat
M-10
Lightweight hood
Ill take a look tonite to see if I can see
the shim
I know it as the extra fuel pump
Looks like 2nd gen controller
Pretty sure it's the 310 kit
He sposed to get back to me on where
it was built

Have you done a leak down ?
I have heard of a lot of horror stories on people http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php? ... highlight= used boosted sleds including myself.

I bought one and everything looked good well that's because the guy just changed the coolant and oil to pawn it off because the head gasket was blown. The compression was fine on every cylinder but needed all new pistons and a new head.
I'm not try to be a Debbie downer but don't want to see you have problem your first ride and be down for the season.

Seems to run fine
I dove it down the driveway to load
in the truck
Sounds great , good throttle response
Had a buddy with me who as a
Mcx 240 kit
Looked all good to him
Never did a leak down test
I guess I'll find out when the snow comes
If I made a good purchase
Just don't want to blow it up
So is there any reason that I wouldn't
be able to run 91 octane if it has
head shim & cams at sea level up to
12 lbs boost ?

Would this be the head shim ?

I think you attached an incorrect link. Would be interested in the correct one if you may share...

Lol,Yes was for a different post.I hate trying to copy and paste on my iPhone.

Perfect just wanted to make sure
that everything is what I was told it is
So I think I'll put in a 50/50 mix of c12
& 91 octane first to get the boost set at
8-10 lbs
Then start running 91
What are you testing with a leak down test ?
Motor or turbo ?
I guess I'll buy a leak down test kit
Anything else I need to check ?
Thanks guys

mcx

You can run 12psi on 91 pump gas with that shim I have been running it for a few years now on my mcx. Even went to 14 last year on 91 just need to make sure that your mcx box is set for it giving it more fuel that is.

Thanks
I think I have the gen 2
Check to make sure tonite
