hey guys,
Recently purchased a 2014 SR Viper LTX SE and I have noticed that the mesh plastic piece in front of the handlebars/below the Gauge, moves freely (can slide it up and down).
I haven't had much time with the sled due to the crazy cold we are having here and it sits in the cold unfortunately so I don't want to screw with it to much and break it more if it already is.
I went to yamaha dealership and I looked at the 2015 models and they don't want to budge ( doesn't slide around at all unless if you really force it) I didn't want to look to hard into it cuz the salesman there come running up to you as soon as your in the door lol. Is mine not pressed in right? Is there grooves it sits in? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I looked at the hood removal pictures and saved a image of the piece I am talking about, I'll try uploading with this post, hope it works
Thanks in advance!

My 14 xtx was the same, after some light boon docking that mesh piece would slide around all over the place. It just kind of snaps in with locking tabs. Problem is there is a ridiculous amount of heat and steam that comes up through the mesh, so with hot and cold it expands and contracts. Simple fix for me I removed it and installed the Yamaha goggle bag. Showed my dealer how loose the vent was and they gave me the goggle bag for free. Takes about 5 minutes to install, is 100% solid compared to the original mesh vent, and keeps an extra pare of googles, phone, gloves, or whatever you want nice and toasty warm with the heat of that beautiful 1049

I suspected this as soon as i looked at it.... took it out the next day and purposely hit as much powder as i could. 3 hours of abuse and 0 condensation build up. mines goodcareful, That goggle bag will steam to death anything if your playing in the deep powder, unless your phone was water proof or its in a ziplock I don't think it will survive. call it a trail only goggle bag, lol

Thanks for the reply! I have enough bags on my sled though! Lol. Minus the goggle bag haha. I'd rather keep the mesh plastic. Like the look. I wonder if I buy a new mesh plastic piece, it would fit tight? Or at least tighter than the one I have if it slides really easy when hot, I'd hate to see when i ride it in this cold. Can the black plastic panels on each side of the grille be tightened together at all? Anyone know??

you can replace that mesh vent cheaply, but its just going to do it again. It is a poor mounting design the way all 3 pieces interlock. I suppose if you really wanted it in there you could seal it with something like 2 part epoxy. or any other kind of strong adhesive. As soon as you get any sort of expansion/contracting or flex of this upper panels it pops that mesh vent looseThanks for the reply! I have enough bags on my sled though! Lol. Then I dont think you were in the powder then..lol Come ride with us some time.
Even when we stop to take a break when I remove my goggles I have to be extra careful not to get them anywhere near that vent or even hanging on the handle bars above the vent or they will fog up.

I put my spare goggles in my rear bag and leave my goggles on my helmet, I use the pouch for my house keys cell etc.

Oh I can assure you i was, when the very tip of your windshield is the only thing visible, I believe that is safe to say i was "in the powder". Sorry to hear your bag doesn't work so well, but it looks like mine and a few other members works fine. A good dealer would gladly exchange your defective one for an effective oneThen I dont think you were in the powder then..lol Come ride with us some time.

Not sure.. I know it can be tricky getting it to snap back in correctly. Make sure all your tabs are there and not broke.. Lastly do what I did.. Remove it and forget it. Lol... If you want there are options to put there.

Mine is loose also, but that is OK cause it is still hard enough to remove. Has to be removable to unplug wiring harness when removing hood.

Thanks guys for all the replies.
I take it by "loose" you mean you can slide yours back and forth to the point it's right against the handlebars, just not up and out?...that's what mine will do, it slides all the way back by hand very easily and touches the handlebars. Can slide forward to the gauge easily as well, just not up and out.
