yes, flakes are fine. chunks are bad. every inital oil change i have done on something is like this.

that has chunks of cast in it. take that filter to the dealer and odds are they will want to see the unit.
last time i saw chunks like that was from a failed timing chain that had a cam bolt go through it. pulling chunks of chain guide mount out of the pick up strainer sucked on a 2 hr old rebuild that took 5 months for the parts was a bit frustrating.
