The reason the 0/40 M1 is a better choice is because it is designed for europeion cars and it has a higher zinc package that the cats on bmw's and like cars are designed for. American cars cars are not. If you are looking for something other than yamalube try Redline, it has high Molly and zinc package but won't save you any money. Also its heat that breaks down oil. The Nytro motor is designed to turn 9200 rpm's so the cooling system is designed for that (kinda lol) overheating the motor a few times during a season is worse for the oil than just running it hard all season.

I unknowingly put mobil 0w-30 advanced fuel economy in my nytro, I only put about 600 km/year on the sled. (I stay close to camp) my question is weather you think I should be fine for that kind of mileage before I switch it out in the spring.
Not worried about saving a buck so much as not having a place to do the oil change. The sled is in the bush and I can't really get it home till spring. Will I dammage the engine if I leave it for now? I've been reading about standards and oil all day long Any advice would be appreciated,

For only 600 km I would just leave it and change it out in the spring. You could do as grizz said and add an additive if it makes you feel better. I'm sure there are people running a lot worse oil or not changing their oil for a few seasons and have had no issues.

I'm new to sleds so I keep second guessing myself at every turn. I'll probably leave it till spring, get some yamalube and call it a day.
What kind of additive should I look for, I thought the manual explicitly said not to put additives?

zddp plus additive. You still have some protection from the previous oil which the metals absorb over time and there are people who have ran the 0w30 for an extended period with no issues . If still concerned drop the oil in the tank and refill it with a more acceptable oil.

Yamaha only has a rating of sj on their 0w30 so almost any 0w30 out there will work as sj is for cars 2001 and older

No jaso-ma on yamalube? Seems kind of odd that they would recommend you follow a standard that they themselves don't follow...

Yes, it does say that- sole reason why I didn't use the Econo saving stuff and got Mobil 1 0-w40.
Not worth the chance of some odd shite happening with my luck
As other said, think you'll be ok with the low miles.... better than no oil at all.

We spend thousands on these sleds and more on mods and accessories, not to mention the clothes and everything else that goes with this sport, then people want to go cheap on the lifeblood of the motor. I'll use the Yamalube thank you

Yamalube is the oil recommended of course but it is far from the best for your sled....

Uh oh. Another oil debate
If it would have been me, I would drain what's in the tank and refill. Leave the filter in. This way most is replaced and have peace of mind.
