I wanted to ask you seasoned RX-1 owners out there if you can help me? I signed up on this forum last year to help me decide what snowmobile to buy. After reading several postings I decided I needed a 05' RX-1 and had one flown in to me. It is a great sled and the power takes your breath away, at least mine. It's just that where I live the only way you can get around is by snowmobile, and the riding is more in either ice or deep snow conditions. After a while the sled tends to get hot in moderate snow, there is no way you can manuver the sled in the standing position, and deep snow poses a problem at times.

I am not crying I am just wanting to know what your opinions are on how I can modify my sled to operate under these conditions. I understand that the new models have addressed these issues and made improvements but I really love the sled, and don't want to sell it.

Any input you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

there are rear heat exchanger that can be installed or maybe ice scratchers to help in low snow conditions also>> water wetter <<from your local hardware or auto parts...this will help in running cooler(a radiator additive) also simons ski have a scratcher device that will help with cooling...but you have to buy there skis. The other scratchers mount to your rear skid and cost about $50.00 here. As far as getting around while standing up??? Um maybe try loosening up your front springs so your machine will tip easier...adjust them as loose as they will go by lifting up the front of your sled and backing off the adjuster till the spring is almost loose in the saddle ..you dont want it to be flopping in there but as loose as it can go. Also loosen your handle bars and turn them as far forward or up as they will allow (follow your owners manual on this so they wont come loose on you. This will get the bars out of your lap and more stand up.

Rx-1 question

Probably the best thing for you to do would be to get risers, and or higher handlbars. A lot of guys have done that here and are now better able to stand while riding. Also if you want to improve deep snow mobility look in the classified section and you'll find guys selling Rx-1 mountain skids and tunnel extentions that are reasonably priced. Hope that answers your question.

As for the standing up i would recomend going to the 4-stroke sled garage section lower on page and check out ALATOLO`S RX-1 I will privide u with the info u need on the bars and risers this acn be done inexpensively I also have been thinking the best way to do this would be buy a new set of apex bars, grips, hooks, riser and warmers and u should be in good shape but this way will be expensive

I have looked at several of the modifications to the handlebars including ALATOLO`S RX-1 and to be honest I find it all a little overwhelming, and the over my head. I am not sure I feel comfortable extending the wiring. I wonder how high you can raise the bars without putting a strain or adding to the wiring. If I had to I guess I could but wiring extensions seem a little intimidateing as I am just getting into the sled game. Also if I do raise the bars out of all the ways I wonder what would be the least expensive yet best way to do so. So far from what I have heard my options are bars and wiring from another manufacturer, risers. Risers and the current bars, along with the possibility of wiring extensions, Or the new Apex model setup.

The cheapest riser may be powermadd or a used 1 here in classsifieds U can go to a 3-inch riser w/out changing cables It is just time consumeing not that hard maybe someone here lives close to u and will help ya out

I disagree on how high you can go with stock cables. I tried to go 3 inches and had to get an 05 mountain throttle cable :ORC
I suggest stretching the skid to at least 136. This will give you better flotation and allow you to add the mountain heat exchanger on the underside of the extension which will keep you cool. I would also suggest Simmons ski's.

On the over heating issue, check to make sure the coolant was added at 50-50 instead of 100% coolant like alot of the sleds out there. Water wetter is also a good idea.
