has anyone had this happen, i was checking everything out today and greasing the fittings and noticed the cable is cut in two

Yup, Mine broke on my RX-1 and I had it replaced. Rode 3 or 4 times and noticed it was broke again. At that time I just left it and rode....

yeah, i'm not fixing til the end of the season, then i got to pull the skid have it beefed up and put a 1" track on

Turk hit the nail on the head as usual.....they break so often and easily with all the ice buildup from our undertunnel exhaust systems....i dont see any reason to bother with them, once mine was set i didnt need to adjust anyway. lol

only thing i often wonder is does any moisture get into the shock??....i havent had a cable or anything on my sled now since season one and wonder about that.

Dan

shock adj. cable

Just replaced mine for the second time, the new cable is different then the prior replacement, hopefully it is stronger, time will tell. Did the beef up kit and powdercoating also.

Did you leave the dial and black protector over backside of dial in the tunnel on or remove them?

I removed mine as they have the possiblity of catching in the track and pulling the rest of the housing off..

Has anyone fully pulled their RA out of the shock body? My cable wasnt broke so I wanted to figure out why it wasnt working correctly. I took apart the manual dial and none of the gears were broken and it clicks to 23 positions. So I pulled apart where the cable that goes into the shock body. There's a small ball bearing that spins and clicks into 4 holes. Then there's a rectangle metal piece that I found was broke which goes into a threaded yellow metal piece that I assume controls the rebound? This is the best way I can explain it, but does anyone know if that part can be replaced? I was thinking about calling pioneer to see if they have replacement parts.

Moisture can't really get into the valving of the shock, all the cable does is varies an orifice in the shock to control the oil flow back to the reservoir. mine broke on warrenty on my 07 apex er. I got the new one but didn't put it on, then i capped the port on the shock just to make sure the peice inside didn't sieze

It is a cool idea with a near impossible solution with the current suspension set-up.

The cable(s) you have to run to the shock are exposed to incredible forces.

When you think about it, the track is spinning at whatever speed you are doing, say 80MPH, an ice chunk comes loose & gets thrown at 80MPH towards the cable.
Not many cables will survive that.

Hope the Rush style suspension catches on, it has incredible advantages, including being able to reliably implement a remote control that keeps working.

They need to go with a braided stainless RA housing like what was on the front arm shock of my old ZR. That particular RA cable adjusted the front arm shock length, and it had to endure the full motion and stroke of the front of the rear suspension but never broke nor pulled out. The rubber hose Yamaha uses just isn't going to last. My cable isn't broken but the rubber has pulled out from the RA clicker unit so I imagine the cable will be the next to go.
