I've just finished up the installation of a Mono-shock skid in my '02 SRX with the Ohlins EC shock. I was wondering if any of you '05 RX-1 owners ever took a measurement from your rear bumper of the sled unloaded and with your weight on it.

What I'm looking for is some kind of a baseline setting for my rear spring preload. The manual I have with the shock tells me the standard preload setting of the shock, but I would like to know what kind of ride in set up has worked good for various weight riders.

I'll have a chance to do some testing next weekend with the sled.

Thanks.

I'm 210 and ride fairly aggressively. I like my sleds to corner well (I don't mind leaning though), be able to pound bumps, and handle moderate air time.

I was always dissapointed with the mono-shock bottoming out too easily. I also found to keep the skis on the ground I had to set the weight transfer at minimum and tighten the limiter strap 2 positions (1 tighter than the middle).

As I rode more and more miles, I kept cranking the preload higher and higher (recently had the c-clip in 2nd position, preload #6 (sortof equivalent to a #12 from the stock c-clip position). Even there it was bottoming out too easily.

Today I installed the heavy spring. This is one strong spring compared to the stock one.

I have the c-clip in #2 again, but the preload cam in #1. I just took it for a short ride (100 kms) and it's probably on the edge of being too high in the back. Tonight I couldn't bottom it out, even off the biggest jumps I felt comfortable launching off. I'm very impressed - it is a lot firmer ride though (feel the stutter bumps more).

I usually set my sleds up to sink about 4" from fully extended when I get on them with stock shocks. Right now with the new spring it's also sinking about 4" (although when I first got on it it only sank 3" - 100 kms and its at 4").

I would say most riders would probably prefer a little more sag - somewhere around 5" would be good for most.

Thanks for the replys. Since this skid is installed in a SRX instead of a RX-1, I think that I'll have to do some fine tuning to get 'er set up to my liking. The Ohlins EC shock comes with a threaded collar to adjust spring tension instead of the cam adjuster that is on the stock shock.

Right now I've got about 4.5" of sag when I sit on the sled from fully extended with the spring set in it's stock position. I'm not sure just how different this spring is from the stock spring. I'll run it next weekend and see how she goes.
