Well pulled my skid to do a track change / pre season inspection and found that I had a fairly large crack right around the weld on the bracket that the transfer rod bolts to. I thought I had looked at my skid good while it was in the machine but this crack was mainly on the bottom of the tube so I could not see it. This most definitely had the potential to leave me stranded on the trail within 100km.

Thanks to all the people at TY4stoke and a couple buds I was able to get it all welded up and braced. Here's some pics before and after.. I still need to paint it.

p.s. for grins and giggles I asked a local Yamaha shop how much a new front W arm was ..$686. fffffffff
Cost of repair , $20 in steel (used 3/16 cold 2" flat bar), a buddy with a bead blaster and another buddy with a plasma cutter and welder. :) I had my own welder and bandsaw bud man is that plasma cutter the shiznit!

Those flat plates that run fore-aft in pic 140 are going to probably interfere at full suspension compression, I had to dent mine in a bit. Make sure you check it......

What if I were to notch it back in a half moon say 1/4" or a little more do you think that would clear? I put it in the skid but its hard to tell if it will interfere. I am thinkin I should have braced the other side..

pretty bad when you have to do that to a couple year old sled? I fixed mine twice in 5000 miles skid just does not hold up in Apex.

Take a look at the note I made in your picture. The red line is where it cracked on mine.. you might want to wrap the doubler over the corner.

Just put it in and put it to full jounce(compression) without the shock hooked up and you will see-it hits the idler wheel mount. I heated mine and then dented them in but the half moon will probably work. You need to do like the above post said too, both my sleds broke there.

Here's a pic of my '08 beefed up by YAM, its holding up pretty good w/10.000kms on it so far.

When you say beefed up by Yam....Yam who?
I just pulled my skid tonight to have a once over and found three different areas cracked. Now the scramble begins....fix or replace?

Did your dealer do that for you? Or is that an updated arm??
If it is an updated arm, what is the part number? and most importantly how much?

Man I hope I can get one season out of mine. Im planning on sending it to welterracer for the beefup kit in the spring but I ran out of play money for the apex before I could get the beef up kit this year. Sled only has 380 miles on it and will only have about 2000 by the end of the season, should last that long... I hope.....

In 2008 all MONO'S got a beefed-up/revised pivot arm from YAMAHA.

If you order a new arm from YAMAHA make sure its '08 or '09 part #8FT-47331-01-00, its BEEFED/revised by YAMAHA and a DIRECT bolt on from '05 to '09 MONO'S 121" or 136" and seems to be doing well...the only down fall is $400.00 apprx CDN :o|

I don't know what i'm doing but after 4900miles of give it hell my have not done this YET and I had the skid out over summer to look at and make it a 136 skid. :dunno:

I just had Weltracer (Halfbaked Coatings) do both of mine & they are awesome. I have a 3rd skid for backup because I was breaking so many I used to carry it with me and change em out. I think I'll get it done but i am sure I will mever have to change it in either sled again.
