More lost clips.... Why??????????

no clip problems and slides are wearing nicely...have fully punched...fully clipped...raised the limiter one...simmons skis with snow throwers on...

I think pulling the limiter up one really helps..
 
i waqs wondering about that. geez, i wrecked 2 shock adjuster cables already this year. bought a ohlins for it no so i hope the wires last longer

I tried pulling the limiter up one more hole when i first got the sled and was way too much ski pressure for me 190lbs dressed. Is there a way to pull up the limiter without incresing ski pressure?

The only other thing i found today was the lightweight clips i bought may not work on the rip saw. Yamaha has their own part# in the tech manual, also looked in the parts unlimited book and was unable to come up with a part# for a ripsaw clip. will do some more research tomorrow.

Maybe a new track will be in the works.

Give it more transfer on the rear track by adjusting your transfer rod in the suspension, go easy like a couple of turns at the time t'ill your sastisfied with the handling, you don't want to much transfer 'cause when you punch her in the corners she will lift the skis you just have to find that SWEET spot.

Also if your running STOCK skis you should also shim them I found it helps on steering effort.

yes...true...in addition take your front shick springs and reduce the tension to the minimum....you'll be pleasantly surprised....a little makes a big diffrence on the springs and the tranfer rod..

First the rtx has no front springs, yes, i could reduce the air pressure but with the setup i have now i can put it to the bar through the corner and not worry about it pulling the skiis up. sound like if i were to pull the limiter 1 hole and loosen the transfer rod it will drive like a dump truck off the throttle and be unpredictable in the corner.

Besides the fact you shouldn't have to run the limiter strap in a certain position to keep the track clips from flying off.

From what i'm finding out i think i was supplied the wrong clips for the track. I'm still trying to find the part # for the guide clips for the rip saw. Dealer was supposed to call camoplast but did not hear back from them.
 
first...sorry missed it was an rtx..
second...it's not a clip problem..it's a number of issues...first the attack angle (no pun intended) is acute causing the rail tip caps to "hit" the clips building heat into the clips...then they melt to the slides....also, every third window closed and 1.25" lug keeps snow out of the skid.....the limiter strap helps the angle and the tips hit much less...fully punched/clipped keeps rubber on plastic friction to a minimum....the spring adj was a cure for pulling up the limiter...

sj can you please explain this? i'm not sure what you are trying to say.

I did punch and clip the track trying to reduce the friction issue as well as get more snow into the skid. seems to be less drag but i'm not sure it's helped get anymore snow inside.

I can understand the attack angle but just not why after 3600 miles it became an issue. Maybe the clips just got worn to the point they weren't as strong.
 
....could be you were running in a lower snow condition....and stopped before cooling your clips...it takes more snow for a deep lug track since it sits higher...

for me it helped tremendously when I added the simmons skis with cooling fins that throw snow toward the slides......

in all, trying to prevent the apparent problem is a sum of adjustments/fixes.....dont under estimate the limiter strap thing.I didnt want it lifter it either...but looking at the poor design it does take a lot of little fixes...
 
I have 2100 miles on my 2007 Attak. Original Ripsaw track is starting to loose clips. I replaced 1 a few weeks ago, then 3 more 2 days ago, and now it is missing 3 more after tonites ride. Upon looking it over after riding tonight I found one more clip that is loose and shows cracks appearing on the flat side. The way it looks I don't think it has anything to do with the rail cap or approach angle. I am thinking these made for Yamaha Ripsaw tracks have poor clips that wear quickly. They may also be of a different hardness than other Camoplast clips. I have been replacing them with gold colored Camaplast clips instead of the silver colored original ones.
 
i wish that were true but mine was not a yamaha built one. it was a camoplast 1.5 and my other one is a cat ripsaw quiet track.

I have about 8,000 miles into figuring out this track clip issue. This is what I have done and come up with.

I have used both a ripsaw and a predator track.

I bolted my caps onto my rails on my mono. I even siliconed them on at one point so they were solid.

Even after different tracks and messing with the caps the clips were still coming off.

I then switched skids and went to a ZX2. (There aren't really rail caps on this skid)

Clips continue to come off.

I have found marks on my hyfax on both skids that show the clips are hitting the front hyfax as far back as about 6"-7" on the underside. So the track seems to be coming out of alignment and then jumps back on. I also believe this is why the guides are braking off the clips.

I noticed accelerated loss during very aggressive riding. I really think the only way to solve this is to run the track tight as a banjo. I do not want to go through hyfax like crazy though.

So I could just ride easy and only ride flat groomed trails, which would also take care of my exhaust problems. :rofl: Yeah, that is not going to happen. :Rockon: I bought a 150hp FI sled for a reason!

I have not investigated this...but have heard of another person retrofitting a polaris slide which is harder...
also...mdkuni...good pic...It leads me to believe a set of anti stab wheels replacing the limiter strap rail will be in order...
 
I'm starting to beleive it is related more to tension than anything else, I have noticed the clips contact the bolts that hold the front pivot arm in the tunnel. Found this when removing the skid. Track seems to salp up and down causing it to hit the bolts as well as slightly derail.

I also recall seeing cracks in the original clips that remained on the track.

Has anyone experienced this on any sleds other than yamaha's?
