Well this forum is costing me more money. I was doing a little reading and discovered the info on the cold starting issues the '07's were having. Next thing you know it I'm out to the garage and discovered I don't have the updated ECU. Iboats had it for $231 but managed to buy a new complete kit for $161 after shipping. So my question is do you need to open up the engine to install the decompression spring? In the posts I read some say if doesn't make any difference. I'm looking for the person who installed just the ECM then installed the decompression spring and compared the results.

Just put the ECU in. I had a Cold Start ECU and sold it to someone who needed it. My 07 starts just fine using the 2 prime then start method. Save your $ and time for a good battery. The battery is critical.

So you don't use the updated ECU? Temps here can reach into the -40 so I was concerned.

I dont. About coldest it has ever gotten here is -30F and that is very rare. The ECU alone will help yours start and sounds likr you may need it! Brrr

I thought even at -30 the Phazer would have an issue starting. Why didn't you just keep the newer ECM? You didn't see a benefit in the -20 to -30 range?

I just bought the updated ECU for $150 shipped and I don't plan on doing the compression springs. Can't compare because I bought the sled in April of this year. I can tell you it does start in 1/2 the time now.

Thanks for the reply. You probably bought the same one I did. Mine was also $150 plus $10 for shipping. I won't bother with the spring.
