Well, not that any of you mountain riders care, but I finally had the chance to run some good stretches of water with my sled. Ever since I jumped ship from Polaris my water running days were over. My SRX700 doesn't like it at all and you need to seal all the cracks with silicone etc...too much hassle and danger so I just quit.
The RX goes extremely well, you can almost stop on the water and take off again without much effort. One guy on an RX shorty ended up sinking, but he was pushing the limit by slowing right down and then doing wheelies all afternoon and it finally caught up with him.
The 4 strokers are a dream to watch/ride on the water. The two strokers are just screaming across the lake to stay in the powerband...don't miss that at all.
Just another perspective what a mountain sled can do...

RX-1 and Water
I have no idea if this is true or not, someone told me after you sink an RX-1 the electronics are shot. Not sure if the guy was feeding me a line or not, but he parted out his sled after a failed attempt at a water crossing. He said that the electrical system was fried.

It's a line....there's been lots of sunk RX's that survived no problem...

Actually everyone is wondering about how the engine will fare out. He held it at WOT right up to when his handlebars were under water. It wasn't fished out until the next evening....needed a boat and the water was pretty deep.

LOL...That's pretty cool. What does it perform like on water? Better than a 2 stroke?

Re: RX-1, just add water...
RIGHT ON !!!!! Welcome fellow Alaskan , we do alot of skipping here in the Valley, I can't wait to try my sled when it comes, though I'm a bit skiddish to go balls out with a 14000.00 dollar investment. I've wondered myself if they'll survive a sinking....... anyone have info on this ? I've sunk so many two smokes it's not even funny, but a four stroke is so much different. Alot more money too....LOL. I'm from Haines where are you located, looks almost like Southeast Ak. in the pictures.

The RX1's that I know of that sunk survived the ordeal quite well. Although, it is not as easy to prepare back into action like the 2stroke (ie change the oil..twice to be sure).
The wider mountain skis would come in handy for that.
Skis! Its all in the Skis!
Definately helps with some fatty skis.... I put some big 7" wide skis on mine for the powdery winter we had and to my suprise they came in handy on the water too. I would honestly be a little scared to head out on open water with the stock skis... they handled like crap in deep snow let alone deep water!
This is located across the bay from Homer up in Southecentral AK! Some incredible riding hiden over there if you can get to it! Hows the riding in Haines? Must be pretty amazing!

I didn't like the looks of the spray coming off the stock skis, so I quit till I replace them. There was a lot of water heading towards the pan, much more than the other sleds I was with.

yeah we are blessed, we have such an untouched large area to ride and the Haines summit is only 30 minutes away along with the three other mountain ranges here in our back yards. So yeah the riding is amazing I suppose....alot of variety and no groomed trails....LOL.
Though that would be a nice option to do if it was one way trails an NO SPEED limits. I couldn't be harnessed after riding free for so long then be expected to abide by the rules of the trail. To many of us just go balls out and having a trail like that would be like Nascar on snow, so they'd have to make it one way and auto bon style>>>>LOL. Just to many rebels here. You guys have some nice riding up there also, I've been there several times and the surrounding area's, it's nothing to be ashamed of. Our only real problem is having access to a good dealer here, we have to go to Whitehorse , Yukon in Canada for the nearest dealer and it's 300 miles away. We have one local shop and they are a bunch of ski-doo bitches....LMFAO. I'm sure when I get mine though they'll be seeing another light...... especially when it's boosted
I'll have to try out the water riding when mine comes......... on the rivers here, and take some pics.

We just tried skipping our Tons the other day. It was amazing how slow you can go. Also seemed like they are pretty sealed up so no water seems to get in. Sure would hate to sink one, though. Here's a link to a little video.

Another Cool vid!! Have you ever considered selling your DVD's along side Slednecks and Mountain Mod Mania??
Yeah, it sure is amazing how slow you can go, especially with the wide power band 4stroker. You can stop with the skis right on the edge of the ice and go (providing you have some traction where the track is sitting) without a problem at all. It's no fun when you have to get a boat and fish your machine out. A friend of mine is a diver and we have had to use his services in the past.
