MPG's on 2008/2009 Nytro's

All last year riding with my buddy and his MXZ-X 600 sdi, I woould get 3 tenths of a gallon better then him at every fill up. Was kinda sweet, because the year before that I had my F7 and he'd get a easy 3 gallons better then me.

I remember when the 600 sdi's first came out, and Ski Doo claimed 21 mpg out of that engine. But real world mpg's was around 15-16 mpg. So I'd be really interested if the e-tec gets what they claim.

The question was asked about MPG for the testing done by Supertrax Mag.
Got the new edition last night and read the whole thing already. Yeah, believe it or not, no TV last night, not even football.

Observed LOW = 18
Observed HIGH = 20
Average = 19

They said it takes awhile to acheive full MPG out of the motor - needs full breakin.

Interesting comment regarding MPG and performance:

"One issue with the Nytro was its high performance personality. This sled begs to be whacked, so we obliged. For some reason it's hard not to squeeze the torque laden mill"

>Loves to be whacked< Love that line.
Take this comment with a grain of salt. I rode with these guys in 04, and "wacking the throttle" was not in any of their riding abilities.

I have a REV 600 SDI and when I ride with the family 20+ MPG is not a problem. When I ride with my buddies it's more like 15 MPG, which is still 25% better than carb'd sleds.

With the Nytro I was surprised by the consistency of the MPG regardless of hard I pushed the throttle. Because I like to ride more than dig, I don't do much (intentional) off-trail riding, which I'm sure will make the Nytro thirsty. As would mile after mile of WOT I suspect.

I do have racing experience and as my buddies will attest to I'm out front. In north-eastern Minnesota the trails are generally tight and twisty, to go fast you're on and off the gas running turn-to-turn. This doesn’t seem to have the big impact on MPGs that I see with my REV. As it happens, at between 90-100 miles I would fill up with about 6-gallons (+/- a little), pretty consistently.

The point I suppose, is that the Nytro is not that much different than a 600 SDI in the same circumstances.

Funny situation on our trip to the UP this weekend.

Left Curtis taking the main roads and logging roads, went to Bear Trap to meet Buddah and Gibby (Nice to meet up with you guys by the way!), and heard that the Wetmore station was the closest gas station to fill up. As I came out of the woods I saw the station and the sled started to bog. I put my hand up to motion I was slowing. The sled picked up again and I was able to run the sled about 5 feet from the pump in Wetmore....WHEW!
109 miles and put in 7.12 gallons. 15.308 Mpg. This was some boondocking and full runs down the trail. This would be an average for me with all types of trail riding and playing in the powder.
