Much talked about mach z sidewinder race

First of all the new 900R dynoed at 192.5 at 16.3lbs of boost.
It's "claimed" it will max at 17.1when broken in so that's about 6-8hp by most people's estimate.

Second of all, the 998 gave Yamaha a nice "BOOST" in sales when they desperately needed it.
I don't think it hurt DOO's sales much, but maybe their PRIDE.

NOW HERE's the GOOD NEWS:
IF this new Doo can run with the Winder and IF big Y wants to stay on top, then Yamaha may have to step up a bit which would be good news to ALL!!!!!!!

I pray for the big Y to stay in the game.
I LOVE their motors.
I KNOW i'll have some problems with my Doo.
I HOPE i can make a year without "re-engineering" my driveline.

I did NOT get this sled to beat a Winder....................i'll put money i beat my bud though. His Winder is actually kinda slow. LOL

P.S: My buds' Winder is slow that's why i won't run against it for comparison
P.S2: Did you get that "BOOST" reference: I still got it........

BTW:
I did the "gear speed" calculator on the 900R.
Depending on "clutch ratio", which we don't know yet, the top speed could be 115 to 119.
Most say use .85 on Doo clutches, but Dr. KNAPP said his boys are seeing .90-.92 which would be closer to 115mph.
Since my buds' 195 TUNE 900T ran 112gps, i was there, i used .90 for my calculation. That sled has a 25 tooth compared to the new sleds' 27.

These are in theory calculations only depending on A LOT of variables.
My STOCK Winder ran 119 in perfect conditions GPS so it WILL be close, but i think the SideWinder will stay the Top Speed king.

I'm ocd too Steve. Factory parameters are 17.4 psi, not 17.1.

It ran 192.5 HP at 16.3 psi at precision EFI on an Enduro. The difference on precision efi's Dyno in boost would be consistent with around 7hp. That's correct.
But that pull was on a brand new and new to them Dyno from precision EFI.

It ran 193.2 hp at 14.1 psi on old reliable from dynotech Jim. Which is where the 998t kissed 211 if I'm not mistaken. And where most have taken their HP numbers from for the 998t since we are comparing it here.

We know two thing. We know it hit 193 twice and we know that it has yet to hit it's target psi.

The question is why isn't it hitting it's psi. Is it because the ECU uses a different limiter (one that estimates HP like on the summit turbo) rather than a target boost? If so, is this perameter only in place for the break in period or is it here to stay? That will make a massive difference. Because like I said before, based on previous dynotech numbers at 17.5 psi with the unknown how much larger enducer/exducer at the time, the mach z could Dyno somewhere between 215 and 220. Those numbers seem unrealistically high, but the math was sound. We know now that the turbo guts are bigger but not much bigger. At 193 HP hitting 14 psi (consistent with hurricanes/TD's claims for the 900t) with an average gain of a non linear 7 hp per psi, 3.5 psi short of it's target, on the same Dyno if those numbers stay linear would put the mach z at 217.5 HP. Still where the math had it at months ago. But the turbo is getting close to the end of it's efficiency. So the 7hp per psi will start to peter out a little bit. I think it hits right at or near 215 if the ECU let's it get there.

EVERYBODY fears the Winder cuz they may be running 300 hp even in trail form. So they never know what they're up against.
The Mach, as of now, is 200ish HP. That's it!
It has a CHANCE against a STOCK Winder.
Equally studded and with the launch mode (and Smart Shoxs) working on the Mach Z, I could see a stock Mach Z beating a stock Sidewinder in a 1,320 or 1,000 foot or shorter race.

Now if they are tuned, my money is on the Sidewinder.

Based on the fact that the stock 137" chassis in the Sidewinder doesn't transfer well. (We know the cure) I'm not sure the winder can keep up with a 440 In 600'
I know exactly what to expect for the shootout. Regardless... lol.
And like you stated Joe, more boost equals diminishing returns, at some point. Not sure if 7hp can sustain at higher boost levels. However, I see mxc?!?! Has a larger turbo and intercooler all set up and ready to go.
To me the 998t is a very proven. And the procross chassis seemingly can finish the package up to make a very enjoyable ride.
Only time is required at this point to see if & what skidoo has delivered.
Can't wait to see the Mach Z's out and about. And hopefully break a few hearts.

Hope everyone the very best season.

No winders at the 2021 old forge shoot out races, Hmm kinda strange, they were going to paddle the Mach Z azz.

The T Cat kept its skis on the ground makes it quicker, once Doo figures out how to keep their skis down you will see more impressive numbers from the Mach Z.

Rumor is that they did not use the Launch Mode on the Mach Zed runs at this year's Old Forge NY Shootout. Launch mode should make it even faster out of the hole.

That being said, a "tuned" Mach Z should be no match for a "tuned" Thunder Winder.

There is no argument, a tuned Winder is a force to reckon with, so easy to gain power with a simple tune with the 998 T, the beauty of Yamaha engineering, the Mach will not be that easy to gain such power of a tuned Winder.

My poor stock winder might be at the back of the pack this year.....lol

Not really. Did you watch the reach for the sky in the video? If they would have used Launch Mode, the driver would of launch on his back, 180.

The shootout is just something to talk about.
It would take a few more runs just to adjust to track conditions no matter what they are.
Going straight up instead of forward cost that Mach a lot.

No sleds are broken in.
The stock setting is whatever the factory left it at.
It's something for us ADDICTS to do waiting for snow.
But it is fun to watch!!!!
